Man do you know how many pitbulls I was already cussing.

Goes to show you never know what could happen and from whom.

Sad news and prayers for the family.

According to Don Webster with HEMSI, the attack happened just before 5:30 this evening on T.R. Christian Road in New Hope.

Ricky Clark, the owner of the dogs, believes the boy got into his backyard by opening the gate himself.

The gate was latched but not locked. He also says his dogs have never harmed anyone before.

We don’t know the name of boy who died or whether the dogs will be put down as a result of the attacks.

However, we do know the breed of the dogs were a Husky and a German Shepard/Golden Retriever mix.

Madison County Coroner Dr. Tyler Berryhill confirmed that the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Berryhill says he sustained fatal bite wounds and an autopsy will be performed this week.

That changes the narrative
I mean if this is true then who is at fault? The dog owner had them secure in his back yard just like fencing around a swimming pool.

Very sad and tragic.

Yep, very sad and may turn out to be just that. A very sad and tragic accident. Will have to wait on all the facts to come out. But if the dogs were inside their fence hard to lay blame on the pet owner. Sometimes boys will be boys, and sometimes it leads to sad, tragic and accidental consequences.

How the heck did a 3 year old get out of his house and into the neighbors back yard? I bet whoever was supposed to be watching him won’t be able to forgive themselves. Such a tragic situation.

This seems to be a situation where the dog owner is not at fault. But man what a terrible terrible tragedy.

It's tragic. I pray for both sides the family and dog owner. I hope I'm not being insensitive and much as I rail on not toting a mouse gun a ruger lcp or Naa mini revolver could have made a difference.

I have a nephew that is wideazz open and he gets hurt all the time. He’s got a younger brother and hopefully he’s not wide open. Before you know it he’s tackling or riding my yellow lab. They have a blast but he can’t do that to the other dog. So we put the other dog in a crate. It’s a rescue my wife grabbed up and it has some pit and Doberman in it plus it was abused. She loves my wife but hates me. She’s in the crate when it’s just me or someone else around. She’s out and about with my wife. She’s goes on walks with my wife and is perfectly fine out and about. I think it’s a territorial thing at home.

All 3 dogs know I’m the leader of the pack and the Boston is next in charge.

Makes me sick to my stomach when bad things happen to kids. My mind instantly puts my kids in that situation. Praying for that family.

I don’t even enjoy reading these articles. I think I’m going to quit even opening threads or news articles on the subject. It makes me too sick to even dwell on it .

Yes and if the kid went next door a lot of people will question the caregiver. And he/she may be negligent, but I know a 3 year old boy can get into all kinds of stuff in the blink of an eye. And I would imagine the caregiver is going through more hell and trauma than can be imagined. Prayers to all involved.

Lord have mercy....My dad volunteered was given a Police dog that was being retired by the Mobile police dept.... a very large German Shepard... biggest I'd ever seen ... his name was King.... the officers that brought him to the house said keep him in the fenced yard.... always place the chest type leash on him and keep a tight grip . he's very strong... he was a magnificent dog... muscular and healthy looking...

But , this is where things went south , things aren't always what they seem ... before the officers left they said don't let him near children ... he gets very aggressive .... they weren't kidding... every time he saw me or my brothers he tried to tear the fence down to get at us.

So I can see where a Sheppard full or mixed can go into killing mode .... tragic very tragic this 3 year old toddler was killed... easily avoidable if the parent was cognizant of his /her duties to their child at the time....

I would be in full panic mode if my 2-3 year old walked out of the house and was gone.

Why does a dog have to kill an innocent child and not someone like Mr. Loco? Unfortunately, I dealt with pretty much all manners of children being killed as an investigator, but never one that died by dog attack. This bothers me mainly because there is no one to put the blame on that will be held accountable.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
