The complexity of pharmacy cannot be explained in one article. If you dont think that money is already out there and getting pocketed by PBMs then you should do some research into them. They have all the money and will do anything to keep it that way. A pharmacy doing 5-600 rxs per day and making $10 on every one is simply a joke. Of those 5-600 more than half will be name brand which will almost always result in the pharmacy loosing money on them…. How can cvs and walgreens do it you ask? They own their own PBMs and what they are losing on the pharmacy side they make up for on the PBM side. Thats why a lot of yall get told where you have to get your meds. They dont want a level playing field because they know the ultimate outcome would be huge savings for the patient and those savings would be coming out of their pocket. Its not the pharmacy that tries to muddy the waters on drug pricing transparency its them. Its not a tax but the PBMs just get someone to write an article calling it a tax and that is usually all it takes. The truth is your cost on anything shouldn’t have to go up, the billions the PBMs are pocketing should come down. Im not here to argue with anyone. Just hoping to shed a little light on the situation. By all means do your own research and make your own decision but just make sure its an informed decision. Im by no means an expert on this i just know what i see every day and its sad on several levels.
