We caught ppl stripping copper pipes from under the crawlspaces of older homes last time. Been to a few homes where the gas was on and they stole the copper Most utilities will not let you run gas in copper. Has to be galvanized/steel. I got some copper gas pipes.

I remember a few years ago they tried to pass a state law that required that an ID be presented and recorded for anyone selling scrap metal to a scrap dealer. There was a legislator from Tuscaloosa that fought tooth and nail to prevent the law from being approved. Any idea if that ever passed? Yes, it passed and made it tougher on the unscrupulous scrap buyers and easier on LE a lot of times as the druggies are looking for a fast buck and not always thinking about getting caught in a couple of days. Ethical scrap buyers, or those that don't want problems at least, turn people away all the time. I'll bet the person that fought against the law said that he opposed it because the poor, Black people that pick up cans off the side of the roads often don't have IDs. While he has a bit of a point, State issued IDs are free in Alabama, so it isn't that they can't afford it. If you ever wonder how unscrupulous some of these scrap buyers can be, a company in Dallas County reported a bulldozer stolen. A week or so later while checking the list of scrap turned in to one of the buyers, a detective noticed a bulldozer on the list. He went to check on it and found a fully functioning dozer, the same one reported as stolen, in the scrap yard that was bought at scrap price. I know it went to the Grand Jury, but not sure of the outcome.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Couple meth heads cut down all of my power lines to the water at my lake house a few years ago. Cost $14,000.00 to fix it and they may have gotten $10 for the copper in the wires!

My sister bought an older house in Cullman county and the drain lines were copper. I've seen this in Vestavia. Chemicals made a hole in it. It was a 2" line.

Apparently they tried to cut 220 service line to unit with pair bolt cutters We had a dude climb into an AL Power substation and cut the wires. I don't even know if those are Copper. Anyways when the workers showed up to get the power restored they found him and called us. He looked about like the squirrel that got caught in the transformer close to my Pecan tree. He was literally still smoking.

A few years ago my parents had moved and were trying to selll their old house in Huffman. Thieves got in the crawl space and cut out all of the water lines. When my Dad discovered it the water was still running. where it entered the crawl space.

From WSFA:
"SELMA, Ala. (WSFA) - The Selma Police Department has investigated over a hundred stolen AC units in the Selma area in the past year, Selma police announced in a post.
The thefts have caused thousands of dollars in damages so far. Currently, there is no indication of how large the ring is or if there are any known suspects.
SPD is encouraging anyone with information to come forward. You can contact the Selma Police Department at 334-876-1260.
WSFA has reached out to investigators for more details." I think one of the perps lives in the house down the hill from my FIL house in Valley Grande. I say this because someone stole the AC unit from the side of the house and a friendly neighbor said this guy does HVAC work and probably stole it. He also looks like a crack head.

Copper is too soft to be driven past rocks and hard ground.

My dad used to buy a $100 worth of pennies and unroll them all while checking for steel ones or really old ones. I got 3 full penny books and a couple partials. The last cloth bag of loose pennies is in a closet corner some place.

If you have full sets of wheat pennies they can be worth a little bit. Any wheat penny from 1909 can be worth the trouble to get checked out but collectors get picky and the price difference over a micro-detail can be a 4 or 5 digit difference, but most wheat pennies are just copper weight. Here is a price guide for wheat pennies. 98% of all wheat pennies are going to grade below 60, so do not get too excited if you have a good date but you can use the guide to figure out which one's you might want to explore further. https://www.pcgs.com/prices/detail/lincoln-cent-wheat-reverse/46/most-active
