So taking the advice of y’all, I got some Federal TSS #9 running a HS Strut Undertaker .582 choke in the Win. 1300 NWTF turkey gun. Not very impressed compared to what’s posted by y’all. 20 yards was pretty good: ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/5yP5GPpT/IMG-8057.jpg) 40 yards was not as I had hoped and this was after cleaning the barrel. 120 in 10” circle with 49 in the head and neck 451 in the 22x28 poster board. I was a little left and made the adjustment on the vortex venom. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/854LJK8c/IMG-8060.jpg) Was kinda bummed. I’m thinking about getting a tighter choke and just taking the 12 with the LBXRs and it’s a killer. Give me some options with a choke for a 20ga.

Idk…i shoot a .555 indian creek in my gun an it is a dang murder machine at 40yds…an i mean…its awful..like volley ball size..i had a tru glo that was like a .560 i think an it sucked bad past 40..it was a killin pattern..but it was just a big wash of pellets..i tried the truglo an a remington super full..that super full was better than the truglo but it still wudnt what that ic is. My other(wife’s) gun shoots a kicks gobblin thunder in i think .565..or something close to that..an its as tight or tighter than the ic.. i been shootin rogue tss an thats some fine patterning stuff but those loads are tuned for a jebs choke…i aint got one but i dont see how it could get better..good luck sir

I shoot a .585 trulock and have killed a pile of turkeys with it. I like a .575 trulock as well as that’s on my backup gun. Chrenshawco may be on to something. I’d shoot at a big box or poster board as your core is to the left and all. . If you have a red dot then this is the perfect time to adjust it

I have a Truglo SSX for my 20ga that is way to tight up to 40yds with Apex 9s. Not much wiggle room at all. I swapped it for my regular rem full choke. Give me a nice more open pattern and it’ll kill em out there a pretty good ways. I know this because I suck at judging distance and killed one farther then I care to admit. My judgement was off a ways. I’ll just leave it at that.

I have to ask How far do you want to kill a turkey with a 20ga ? @ 40yds that’s a very dead turkey I’d say @ 50 yds the pattern wouldn’t be much different
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

If that’s a 1 5/8 oz load, I’d tighten the choke up. I’d go with an IC .555 up to a Carlson .575.

Some of it may be the Federals . Hard to beat Hal's original 1 5/8 20 gauge loads. I think Apex is 1 5/8 ? . I'm thinking polish the bore, shoot 1 5/8 oz # 9 with a .575 - .595 choke will give much better results. For turkey killin', you want an even pattern with #9 of 275 -285 pellets in the 10" at 40 yards.

I started off shooting Hal’s 1 5/8oz load when I first started and killed birds with it. I noticed that it was inconsistent from shot to shot. One shot would be 300, the next would be 260. I recently started using another guy’s recipe and am getting consistent 300s with my 870 and 350s with my 1187.
I tried open chokes and didn’t get the performance that I wanted. The IC .555 gave me what I wanted.

There’s a shell/choke combo out there that will make that Winny shine, you just gotta find it. That gun is not as common as some of the others, so it’ll be harder for you to get examples from others. Also, most guys looking for numbers are shooting 1 5/8 ounce loads and I believe those Federals are 1 1/2. To be honest though, that pattern is plenty deadly if you like toting that gun. Just reminisce back to the old days at the lead patterns you got out of your trusty 12 gauge. I’d hunt it! 👍

I bought the carlsons TSS choke for my son's 20 gauge SX3. It patterns so tight you kind of wish it was more open. But it hammers the birds. I didnt count the pellets in 10 inches at 40, but it is a lot.
I looked at the constriction and it is a . 555 just like many others have in ither models.
