I have my general but really have never needed it.
I operate on 2m/70cm most of the time.
I just moved up because I had some HF equipment I wasn't using.
Passed the exam for the general class and moved up from a tech, then sold the equipment to buy gun tools.
The only radio I currenlty have hooked up is a dual band Yaesu in my office,
I have a crap ton of vairous HTs as well but rarely turn them on unless bad weather is coming,
They do offer piece of mind knowing you can communicate if power and cell service gets knocked out though

Getting the General is more of just a mental thing for me. I’ve got RF in my work background and used to know most all that stuff. I’d certainly be starting out just listening in bad weather and keeping a few HTs on hand for the just in case. Heck, I’ve got one Yaesu that I’ve had for 10 years or so laying around. That was the last time I really got the itch to take the test. I was just too busy to make the one weekend they offered the test here in Madison County. I was hoping an online test would become a reality but I don’t think that will happen.
