I’ve noticed when I seat the Barnes bullets, the seating die leaves a ring just below the polymer tip. I’m using Lee dies. Am I doing something wrong, do I need a different die, or is that just the way it is? I don’t really like the ring but I can live with it if I have to. [Linked Image]

Too much neck tension or your have a ring in your stem. Get some polishing compound and Chuck up a bullet in a drill remove the stem and use the bullet and compound to smooth out the stem. Or just don't worry about it not effecting anything unless it's denting your bullet.

Keep your booger hooker off the bang switch.

Had the same issue w/ a set of lyman dies and noticed an edge on the inside of the stem that was the culprit. Took an inside neck reamer, removed the edge, then polished. Works like a champ now, no marring.

You can take some fine steel wool and smooth those tips up.

You gonna pull them pistols, or whistle Dixie?

I thought Lee seating stems didn't like polymer tipped bullets. I just remember reading that. I don't own any Lee dies. There are stems designed for polymer tipped bullets.

Thanks for the info. I’ll research seating stems. I’m going to have to look at the other TTSX I’ve loaded for other calibers to see it they have the ring also. Didn’t notice when I was seating them.
