If you look at this critically, the only way to give “”insurance” against an unforeseen down weather year (uncontrollable), is to boost the population in every other year. …….Are we talking stock market or turkeys……. A simple reduction from 3 birds to 2 birds/ year is an 8% increase in total population. Assuming the current average of .94 total recruitment(from studies), reducing the bag limit from 3 to 2 is plus 2% as a whole rather than the projected minus 6%. Am I just blind, or is this not the quick band-aid on what’s happening? Does this not guarantee success? Even if I l/we are wrong, the population would be ahead by 33% from where we are currently.

Give me my 10 days back in March and reduce the bag limit by ONE you c@[€ suckers…….

SIDE NOTE: I do have a wildlife science degree, but not too good w/ statistics. Check me

It’s not a lack of gobblers but hens. The number of hens dying on the nest and the 10 days after is the biggest issue.

Yup
I’ve mentioned others and myself mention lack of hens. Seeing gobblers just not the hens. Used to see flocks of 10-15 and sometimes more. These days see 3-5 or a few more if lucky. That’s why I was so taken by seeing all those birds at the farm a year and half ago. Kind of reminiscent of years past

That mimics what I am seeing. A substantial reduction in numbers of hens seen and heard year round.

I had a flock of 18-20 hens all winter at the house. That’s up from around 13 two years ago. Now they all disappeared in March except 1.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Does anyone else check these numbers at https://game.dcnr.alabama.gov/Report/County/Turkey How accurate are these numbers?

An excel spreadsheet does the calculations.....I double check everything pretty well but its possible there's an error in there somewhere....I'd say 99% of it is pretty accurate though

I would think that they are 100% accurate when it comes to measuring the LEGAL harvest. If a turkey isn't checked, then it's an illegal harvest. GC just moved a whole bunch of turkeys from legal to illegal, and now nobody knows how many are being killed.

I don't trust the people behind gamecheck. I would love to think I could but nope.

Do you think they are doing something to change the numbers being reported? I've been critical of a lot this administration has done, but I'm not aware of anything like that. I'm not saying that it isn't happening, but I will say that I haven't seen anything to make me believe it is. That would be a conspiracy that would require a lot of people to be in on it.

I just think they designed a system that doesn't work on any level. It's no good at all for enforcement; anyone can get around it easily if they decide in advance that they want to do that. And since so many hunters ignore it, then it doesn't work for telling us how many were killed.

I don't trust a word they say. I have dealt with them enough to see what they are. They have interest in 1 thing and that is money. Our wildlife deserves better.
