CWD

Quote
Two Hunters from the Same Lodge Afflicted with Sporadic CJD: Is Chronic Wasting Disease to Blame?

Quote
This study presents a cluster of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) cases after exposure to chronic wasting disease (CWD)-infected deer, suggestive of potential prion transmission from CWD-infected deer to humans.

Quote
In 2022, a 72-year-old man with a history of consuming meat from a CWD-infected deer population presented with rapid-onset confusion and aggression. His friend, who had also eaten venison from the same deer population, recently died of CJD, raising concerns about a potential link between CWD and human prion disease. Despite aggressive symptomatic treatment of seizures and agitation, the patient’s condition deteriorated and he died within a month of initial presentation. The diagnosis was confirmed postmortem as sporadic CJD with homozygous methionine at codon 129 (sCJDMM1). The patient’s history, including a similar case in his social group, suggests a possible novel animal-to-human transmission of CWD. Based on non-human primate and mouse models, cross-species transmission of CJD is plausible. Due to the challenge of distinguishing sCJDMM1 from CWD without detailed prion protein characterization, it is not possible to definitively rule out CWD in these cases. Although causation remains unproven, this cluster emphasizes the need for further investigation into the potential risks of consuming CWD-infected deer and its implications for public health.
Conclusions:
Clusters of sporadic CJD cases may occur in regions with CWD-confirmed deer populations, hinting at potential cross-species prion transmission. Surveillance and further research are essential to better understand this possible association.

Now they got what they wanted. A disease that is so rare and so difficult for a person to catch that it means an entire set of rules, laws, regulations, and industries are needed to combat something that is basically nothing. A perfect government borne disease. Its not really a problem but it needs a lot of money and public control measures to make it a problem, so that more money can be put towards the problems the problem solving creates.
You have a massively greater chance of catching salmonella or another food borne disease that can kill you than you do with CWD. But it sounds scary and the control freaks saw how the UK and Europe used Mad Cow disease to control the beef industry and population so CWD seems to fit the same bill for controlling gun owning Americans that are probably conservative.

Not challenging to find or shoot but it gets pretty sporty when you do it without getting caught👍

Bonus: Only need a couple a year.

A handful of people (less than 10) have died from something they suspect they caught from eating infected deer meat over a 20 year long period. So it makes sense to spend millions and create new regulations for this incredible non-problem.

The anti gun/hunting whackos tried the same BS a few years ago by pushing a lie that you could get lead poisoning from eating game shot with bullets.

It's a scam.

Its also funny to me how many really smart people have wasted a huge amount of their career life working on a problem that really is not a problem at all. Its gonna hurt their feelings when those folks realize that.

That's about the most wishy-washy language I think I've seen in a medical journal. I'm just shocked it took three people to write it.

"Conclusions: Clusters of sporadic CJD cases may occur in regions with CWD-confirmed deer populations, hinting at potential cross-species prion transmission. Surveillance and further research are essential to better understand this possible association."

I'm not saying there's not possible transmission, but with CWD being endemic in some areas for years without people knowing what it was, you would think folks would be dropping like flies if it was easily transmitted.

I'm also trying to figure out why a bunch of Wildlife Biologists are suddenly public health officials.

playing devil's advocate here...........every time this comes up, the general consensus here is that all the researchers are FOS, they're lying in order to get people to stop hunting or just a power grab through more regulation, etc....

so, what data/research/evidence would it take for y'all to believe there might actually be something to it?

It would help if government agencies didn't feel compelled to lie about the numbers.

Regardless of all of the above, CWD isn't going anywhere. I wish they'd put more of their resources toward developing a test that can actually give you a "Negative".....................as it currently is, tests can only give a "Postive" or a "Not Positive"....but "Not Positive" =/= "Negative".

Show conclusive proof that CWD is a real public health problem, because so far, it is not a problem, it never has been a problem, and the current evidence suggests that it never will be a problem. If it was a real problem then fine, but its not.

Also, another obvious thing. CWD has never been found in anything other than a deer. If a human can get it from eating a deer then bobcats, coyotes, wolves, stray dogs, etc... should also be able to catch it. If there is data showing that happens then I am not aware of it, and I bet its most likely there is none. Why don't Feral hogs catch it?
