Oh my lord. They are deafening here in lowndes. Between the wind and those things I don’t know if I could hear a turkey outside 100 yards.

Just heard on the radio that this year there are combined hatches of cicadas that coincide. I don't remember the exact years but something like 17 year and 30 something year hatches are both happening this year so the numbers are huge and the sound is loud.

Growing up in the 60's/70's we called them June Bugs. They would shed there outer shell and it would be stuck on pine tree bark mostly....looked like a pork skin!

Supposedly 200 years or so ago was the last time they hatched like this

Like what they have in Africa? Locust look like grasshoppers.

My son earned $5.00 by eating one on a dare in front of the youth group at church. Youth director didn’t think anyone would do it and the funniest part was watching him build up the courage to tell my wife.

There’s only certain counties these cicadas live in AL. It’s far northeast, some east central and southeast. They pick back up in parts of MS, but are absent from a lot of AL. They’re different than the annual green cicada we see every year. I don’t think we will see any in most of west and NW AL.
