Some friends and I are interested in purchasing again. I want to try a different cattleman and processor. In the past I'd buy 1/2 and they'd take 1/4 between them.
This time we want a whole. I want 1/2 and they want 1/4 each.
If you have someone you'd recommend, I'm all ears. Further, I like the idea that they should eat what they raise. That's a huge bonus for me.
Anyone? Man I've advertised beef on here all the time. Give me a call just took a load to.slaughter house. We take in spring and fall, net ones will be ready Nov Dec. Taking orders now. Best beef , guaranteed!

Grain fed hands down for me. I have had cows most of my life. There is no comparison to one that has been grain fed 3 months vs one that you had out to pasture. We have always bought beef vs feeding one out. Out of the hundreds of cattle farmers I know, u can only name a few that eat what they grow. I'm one of them, our cattle is hand selected to raise as beef cattle. We sell our steers as freezer beef, and raise the heifers as replacements, we also have grain fed pork, we eat our own. Will have produce again this year also, everything raised right here on our ranch, everything we raise we eat ourselves!

Every beef farmer here eats his own, but this ain't that lot fed/raised cattle BS, it's quality and well cared for animals.

My uncle [quote=Lonster]My uncle always put his slaughter steer in a barn stall and fed it corn for a couple months or so before he took it to be processed.
So from what y’all are saying I’ll raise them on grass until they are 17 months old, then feed corn for the final 3 months. You can call me and I'll help you anyway I can. I can tell you exactly how we do it, I do believe our beef would grade out top choice to prime every time. Only 3-5% of all beef raised in the US grade prime

At $3.50 per pound on the hoof, its hard to lay the grain to one and put it in the freezer.

The grass fed beef here taste great and really don't need much grain IMO. Some folks have caught on that the jersey steers cost less and actually taste really well. The dairy does a few crosses and have been good. Last year was some yak/jersey crosses, good stuff. A lot of short horn and or angus farmers here. How much is 1/2 beef there? Pretty sure pushing 2K here, I eat elk and deer mostly but pick up some beef in trapping trades.

So what's the diff really? Grass fed a little more gamey tasting with less fat? Less marbling and believe it or not, the weeds/grass change the taste. Bitter weed will ruin a glass of fresh milk as well.

So what's the diff really? Grass fed a little more gamey tasting with less fat? The reason im eating it is cholesterol. Apparently, grass fed has good cholesterol where as regular ole grocery store beef has bad cholesterol. Same with milk. Were back on the raw milk, its cholesterol is the good kind. I reckon its like the way wild game has the good cholesterol. When we screw with it, we turn it unhealthy. If its natural, its generally healthy.

And you can get the steers pretty cheap. Reason no one uses them in a beef operation is the meat to waste ratio. They're a big bone cow so you don't have as much finished meat in the end. I cross registered herefords cows with a registered brangus bull. These have worked well for us. I don't know where your at but I could probably sell you a steer to feed out if you want. Otherwise I would get someone who knew what they were doing to get something with alot of Angus or hereford, stay away from anything with alot of brama. Your just growing bones and hide

If you are eating enough beef per week to worry about which one is healthier, you might wanna concentrate more on what kind of flowers you want at your funeral 🤣😂🤣😂 Tacos compechanos was the main problem. I switched to chicken
