II got a pile of them and researched to web. Some say it's great and others say they are skeptical. So I'm asking aldeer. Go or no go ?

Be the pioneer on a cheap cut of meat. How does it smell when burning a small bundle of sticks/limbs? That should give you a good idea.

I haven't burnt any yet. From what I read about it, it's okay as long as it isn't flowering I have no idea. I know some aldeer member has been there and done it though

I was curious if it had a bitter stage. I’ve heard similar about wild pecan…depends on when it its cycle it fell or was felled.

Basically avoid spring cut (budding) hardwoods for smoking.

For pear (applies to crabapple, too) it’s between oak and pecan, but burns hotter IME. I used a pile of it a few years back, and it worked well, but required more damping to keep temps down.
