Lot of people seem to take snake bites lightly on here so I wanted to tell what happened to my coworkers son. I saw the pictures today and it was bad.

The boy was healthy and in his early 20s. Strong looking feller.

He was in New Market Alabama working for a company called Grounds Control and was at their head quarters I guess. I don't know if they have bathrooms there, it could just be a shop, lay down yard for equipment...I don't know but his stomach started to boil so he walks over to the edge of the woods to squat and handle business. As he bends down, a rattlesnake bites his hand. The snake was laying beside a log that he didn't notice.

One fang puncture on the hand.

He immediately drove to Huntsville hospital.

He received 5 viles of anti venom, was in a comma for 2 days. It almost killed him. He tried to suck the venom out of his hand and that alone made his lips and face swell up really bad.

It was a timber rattler.

That happened 3yrs ago and he still has problems like his face starting to pour sweat when eating. He had some other weird issues but I forgot what his dad said.

Gotta take them very serious. Don't try and be a tough guy about it, do what he did and get to the hospital fast. Dont try to suck it out either, it wont help.

Guy I worked with got popped by a copperhead on his finger. Now he counts to 6.

eek There's a member here who last week was gonna "relieve himself" while Turkey huntin'. When leaning his gun against a tree, he sat it down on a rattler and the snake struck his gunstock!

ive had some very close calls but im looking hard for them all the time . its just places they like to be and hunt . snakes are easier to see if you look for the pattern other wish they blind right in . kinda like ever thing else we hunt we dont really look for the animal we look for parts of the animal .

He got a good 10-12 feet off the ground with some hang time out of that round. Joker was in the trail coiled and waiting for me when I saw it so I introduced him to Mr. Ruger.

My property is infested with cottonmouths! I mean infested! We have lots of water, moving and stagnant. Had a moccasin take a swing and a miss at me about 4-5 years ago. By the grace of God, he missed. I wear snake boots everywhere! We thin them out every year but can’t make a dent. I HATE them!!!

Me too. The 44 is a hell of a snake gun. Thinking of trying the 450 Bushmaster out this year. It should be more of a good thing.

Rattlesnakes are no joke. They’re far worse than copperheads and cottonmouths. Timber rattler venom has also changed in chemical composition the last few decades. It has neurotoxins and hemotoxins. Most snakes primarily do one or the other, but not both.

I’ve only seen a couple of copperheads so far this season and that’s two too many. I’ve noticed that both were really big for a copperhead

I had a coworker whose son got bit by a moccasin. He got two shots of antivenin in a rural hospital in Mississippi, then transported to a hospital in Mobile for more shots. Medical bill was $60k plus.

I'm always looking luckily I haven't saw a rattlesnake within 5 miles in my lifetime, killed a couple outside that range

I think eastern diamondbacks have both as well. Nasty bites

Those who fear venomous snakes need to recognize and protect the other snakes. King snakes, rat snakes, and black racers will all kill and eat venomous snakes. I have fiercely protected the king and rat snakes here on the farm, as well as catching some elsewhere and releasing them here.

I even keep a net bag in the Gator when we do our late afternoon rides. Have caught a few crossing the road, brought them home and released them. Never see a venomous snake here, but I see my buddies often. Saw a black rat snake that I think I released last year earlier this week. It's about 4 feet long now.

This rattlesnake was by my mailbox a couple days ago. I dont like them in the yard. The only thing handy was my son's old little.league bat. It is inly 26 inches but did the job. Next time I'll get the mail when it isn't dark.
