Rattlesnakes are no joke. They’re far worse than copperheads and cottonmouths. Timber rattler venom has also changed in chemical composition the last few decades. It has neurotoxins and hemotoxins. Most snakes primarily do one or the other, but not both. I didn’t know that. How and why would it change? Thinking the same thing, why/how?

All the fun stuff science has given us but we dont use it the right way. Pesticide is good for killings bugs, but it also works on other animals in strange ways.

They are no fun to deal with. I earned my username back in 2015 in the turkey woods.

Those who fear venomous snakes need to recognize and protect the other snakes. King snakes, rat snakes, and black racers will all kill and eat venomous snakes. I have fiercely protected the king and rat snakes here on the farm, as well as catching some elsewhere and releasing them here.
I even keep a net bag in the Gator when we do our late afternoon rides. Have caught a few crossing the road, brought them home and released them. Never see a venomous snake here, but I see my buddies often. Saw a black rat snake that I think I released last year earlier this week. It's about 4 feet long now.
This. We have a large king snake that hangs close to my place. Saw her Friday about 100 yards from my back door. I’ve told my neighbors, who are very anti-snake, to call me if they see a snake around their property. I’ll come remove it. Want to protect the kings and other non-venomous snakes if at all possible. Too many kids running around our neck of the woods to be killing the good snakes that eat the venomous ones. If I see a venomous snake here around the house, it’s getting gone. I see one out in the woods it will get to keep on keeping on.

Most snakes primarily do one or the other, but not both. And on top of that they ones around my parts and in Bankhead have stopped rattling. So now there is no warning. The local theory is due to the hogs eating them. The last couple Ive seen didnt rattle. Everyone else says the same.

How did this even get started? Who, on here, was saying RS bites are no big deal? Guess I missed that. A handful of internet talkers who watched too many Westerns about tough guys getting bit then saving the town from bandits and getting the girl at the same time.

But it darned near kilt that annoying brat that Rooster had to kill horse over and then carry her limp butt miles and miles to McAlister's. Luckily he cut her and sucked the poison before putting a good hunk of chewing tobacca on it.

Snakes caused the invention of shotguns. Not sure of the scientific name for it but I think cone shells have 792 different poison types for each thing it eats,if shells can do that reckon snakes can boost venom types too.

Snakes caused the invention of shotguns. This. I can shoot OK with dang near anything but when summer rolls in its 100% shotgun with #4 and #6 around the house. Just finished weed eating, when I went out to get started I brought a Remington Model 11 and placed it conveniently close by. It will be on my tractor, in my truck, or leaning against a fence all summer.
