Most of you are probably not aware, but USDA Wildlife Services has been funding research at Auburn since 2017 that is designed to look at impacts of wild pigs. A major focus of this work has been to examine the impacts of wild pigs on turkeys. The first project we conducted looked at impacts on populations of wild turkeys, in which we found significant impacts. This project also looked at impacts on deer populations but we didn't find the same degree of effect. The second project examined impacts of wild pigs on space use of turkeys. We have not yet published the findings of these studies, but the theses are complete. I'bve put the links to the theses below.

We will see how long I stay. Back for two days and the wannabes are already sniping. But, I will continue to try and share information that I think would interest the group.

Thank you for posting Dr. Steve. Just started listening to your recent Gamekeeper podcast on hogs. Had to pause it right after your introduction, but looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

if i have ever offended you are any one here i apologize for all here to see . it never is my intent .

i see the studies as good and a good thing and glad they happen . i just want more info thats is new and some thing "I" can learn from . if the studies stop or the people that inform us of these studies leave sites like this nobody will learn form them , new hunters or the old ones .

It's all good. Since I haven't been on here in quite some time, I just forgot how brave and intelligent people become when they have both a keyboard and anonymity.

Hang in there Dr Dumbass😁. Your skin is way thicker than that. Seriously thank you for caring enough about hunters to keep us informed.

Thanks for the information
I’ve said for several years now that with the fast growing hog population they would soon be the #1 turkey nest predator

Thanks for the useful information. Yet one more reason to take a scorched earth approach to hogs.

According to their studies pigs aren't really messing up nests but rather just running turkeys out of the area.....They said turkeys were exhibiting an avoidance behavior to areas with pigs

We dont rent pigs
