Guys - Dr However comes along with a study and that's also now FACT?
Hardly. I have a degree in Statistics. I can make a "study" or white paper say anything I want it to say. That's how this works. Ditchkoff's Bounty study is flawed at best. That should make you really consider that anything he has to say might need questioning
Now... I know y'all can't critically think, especially on your own..... but to me this is exactly like Trapping and what has happened there with the Fur Markets. Incentivize people. Coyotes are caught. No Incentive - No catches. Real simple.
Current State = Hogs are spreading like wildfire. There is no singular solution a bounty wouldn't solve the issue entirely but if something needs to be done today that's a place to start. Saying a Hog is nasty doesn't get anyone anywhere.
At some point you need to understand that formulating your own opinion, particularly if it involves common sense is a good habit.
Otherwise carry on as a windowlicker.
I have a very valuable degree in common sense. A LOT of it I learned the hard way. Best degree you'll ever come across.

Trapping is the only way. So what is the incentive to get out there and do it? Not much.
How do you fix that? Public Awareness doesn't lead to someone spending the required time to trap them. That should be obvious.
I trapped over 200 last year myself. They just keep coming. I do it because they are eating my crops. My neighbors have no incentive to do a dam thing and they don't. One tells me they ate up his yard. That's about the extent of the general publics effort.
Reality.
I'm open to suggestions. You couldn't get someone in my area to get off their couch and bait them it that was available and free dropped off on their doorstep. Appear to be putting too much effort into Home Schooling and making sure they don't work too hard.
I will also add that I have never been really impressed with what it took to get a biology degree.

The study we did was purely opportunistic, so was not really something we designed in a perfect scenario. But, I would disagree that the study design was flawed, etc. There are several areas on Benning that have access restrictions, like many military installations. These areas are large, and can also serve as a source population in some fashion. However, the spatial dynamics of pigs on Benning ( Described Here) don't support the idea of the pigs using these areas as sanctuaries to avoid trapping, hunting, etc. The pigs on much of Benning exhibit high spatial fidelity and don't move very far across the landscape. The areas in which we studied the population during the bounty program had high access by trappers, hunters, etc. Yet, despite up to $40/pig, traps provided by the installation, free bait, and access to these areas and these pigs, the population increased. So...not a perfect study design, but its imperfections were not limitations because of the biology of the animal in question.

I really wish there was a bait killer like is discussed in the video. Hopefully they'll be able to get the kinks worked out soon so it doesn't kill anything else but the hogs.

I'm about tired of listening to these Dr Dumbasses theories about deer, hogs or whatever else they want pontificate about to get some notoriety and internet clicks.
Put a Bounty on the Hogs.... and they will die. We are NOT going to get rid of them doing what we are currently doing. The Feds and State have not gotten serious about getting rid of them yet.
Give people an incentive to kill them and maybe they will knock a dent. In our current state of affairs they are just continuing to spread. That's the reality of the situation.
Maybe divert some of that money from Ukraine or another black hole it's going in. There's PLENTY of money we printed near $100 Billion in March 2024 and may as well just taken it out in a California parking lot and set it on fire for a couple homeless to cook some crack over. Yous angry about sumpin? Looks like one of his normal, cheerful responses to me.

What about the fact that when you introduce the participants in the bounty program that changes the entire landscape because now there is pressure on the hog population, baiting, a lot of human presence etc.
I think your initial spatial study is no longer valid.
Anyone on here should be able to understand that as we deer hunt and pressure, human presence whatever you want to call it changes EVERYTHING. No different with hogs.

I am confident that Wildlife Society Bulletin, the peer reviewed journal in which the bounty article was published, would be willing to publish a rebuttal article that describes the shortcomings of our original study. I’ll get email addresses and contact information for you if that would help.

If they were drinking a better beer they would have killed all of them.
