Have you heard of coyotes, maybe seen one lately? Coyotes can certainly be wiped out, at least temporarily (more will take their spots). If you’re willing to forgo ethical hunting methods and don’t mind using some illegal/inhumane tactics and/or sustaining some collateral damage it’s doable. It’s all about what someone is willing to do to achieve the desired result.

I’m not a doctor but problem is most hunting properties or ag land is literally a pig sanctuary so why would they leave their sanctuary they don’t they eat do the nasty and repeat and most people can keep up with killing them fast enough. No sanctuary no pigs but it a sanctuary

I have almost eradicated the hogs on our 3k acres . Caught over 300. Rarely see a pig nowadays . Wish I could . I love trapping them . They smart but I’m smarter . Something to do when deer season over . Makes good sausage for all the neighbors. The government will screw up everything with restrictions. I use simple homemade traps that work an prebait I think a lot of people would be interested in how you significantly checked down the hog population on 3000 acres. State folks would love to hear it also. They're on here. Any input you have brushwhacker will be appreciated I'm sure. 10 years ago we acquired 800 acres from the same landowner we already had 2200 acres leased from. It was a high fenced fox pen . Lease holders Charged folks so much per dog to chase fox. Lease holders shipped hogs in from texas unknown to land owner . Started selling hog hunts for $1000 a hog . Landowner found out and ran them off an i got lease with hogs. I cut fence so deer could move in an out and started trapping hogs . Built 2 inclosed traps with cattle panels welded together with root doors . Caught 150 first year . I would move them around . Tie doors up an prebait with corn for two weeks . Lower doors and pigs would root in an i would catch whole sounder . 12–15 at a time . Pigs got smart to that after couple years so I built a inclosed pen with t post I could move around an put trap on travel path of hogs . Leave hole in both sides of fence so hogs could travel directly through while feeding . I figured out with cameras they always came from same direction every day on same path. Built a drop type door that was tied up with string attach to a washer with a nail through it . Fishing line tie across back of trap .hogs can’t see fishing line . I used braided spider wire . When hogs fed into pen slowly feed to back of trap an usually whole sounder be in before hog touched the line an trap door fell. Sounds complicated but not . Hogs didn’t like the panel traps because they had wire bottom. I think the trick is to get hogs very comfortable coming through open trap before setting it .i had really good luck an spent lots of time doing it . The main thing is I live next to property an can check on things every day if needed . Hardest thing to catch is old boar . They are smart but I can catch momma an babies very easily . Very few hogs are around here any more . Trapping hogs is way more fun an more challenging than deer hunting . An I do it after deer season an nobody in woods but me . I had the pen trap setup where I could pull post an move it on trailer an set it back up in few hrs . I know I haven’t caught every single hog . Maybe see one or two on camera on plots a yr now . But before couldn’t plant a plot . We have no more sounders for sure .

@ Steve Ditchkoff, you said in the podcast that pigs have a high site fidelity. Based on your experience, how many acres does your typical sounder consider to be their home range? Yessss.

If Dr D doesn't come back on here and answer anything, which I don't blame him if he does not, y'all have run him off before, I plan to email him these questions. You won't find many, if anyone, in our state more knowledgeable on subjects like this.....and willing to discuss it here. You can take his and others answers with a grain of salt if you want to but people like him have put more thoughts and acts into this subject than anyone you'll more than likely ever meet. Y'all that want to call all of these people Dr dumbasses are equivalent to calling Skinny a dumbass archaeologist. Jason Mann is no dumbass archaeologist. He knows his schnitzel. Skinny has dated 2 sites I have found perfectly and other archaeologists have said the same exact thing he has. Dr D has posted facts here over the years and he gets slandered. No other respectable person I know has the guts to post anything here. They know what the outcome will be. At least Dr Ditchkoff gives a whootn hell about our interests and shares his thoughts here.....even if he does pull for Michigan State over Auburn.

Not that it would help really but there is too many ridiculous restrictions on hunting them on public land. Its stupid. FCS I agree with this. There should be no restrictions on hunting a destructive nuisance animal. Shoot them, stab them, nuke them. When I hunted them in Bankhead on public property, it seemed they made it as hard as possible. They don't want us hunting them, cuts into the grant money they hope to pocket. What is really appreciated is for us to buy their damn licenses, WMA fees, P/R taxes, etc and stand aside while the "experts" feed at the public trough.

The scale of the problem around here is huge…….If you take and draw a square from Montgomery to Columbus to Eufaula to Troy with those points being your corners…….the pig population within that square has exploded over the last 20 years…… They’re so thick in some areas of Macon Co its difficult to track deer just due to the nuisance of them being in every holler and thicket distracting the dogs ….From around hwy 231 all the way to the Chattahoochee is just loaded with pigs and it just keeps on going over into Georgia……I’ve been over there on the other side of the river on places as bad as any I’ve seen on this side. There’s no telling how many thousands and thousands of hogs are out there now.

If you had some swamp land and if you had a bunch of corn to put out and you could put an electric charge around said swamp if you could ground it or not ground it you may or may knot be able to electeute a bunch of pigs every got damn day and nite

I bet if hogs were destroying pine saplings that were just planted the timber industry would come up with an answer for them. You can bet that. They'd be extinct around here

I bet if hogs were destroying pine saplings that were just planted the timber industry would come up with an answer for them. Yep. If hogs were eating about 3 billion dollars worth of hybrid pine trees each year you would see some people get serious about the problem.

How’s the poison for hogs coming along. I’d read about some research trying to find a doable poison I thought the research was from LSU
