Been seeing numerous poults lately. 3 hens had about 15-20 this morning. Little bigger than quail. But also saw 3 busted eggs scattered

Wednesday afternoon, I saw two hens that both had chicken sized poults. Thursday morning I bumped a hen off a nest with eggs. All in Choctaw County.

Saw the smallest polts I’ve ever seen yesterday crossing the highway on a back road. They were the size of a baby chick. Usually they’re at least as big as a quail. Had to been born yesterday. They hunkered down in the middle of the road when I came by. Tiny. The momma stepped off to the side, then came back out after we passed. So born on 6/26-6/27 pretty late isn’t it?

I had 11 hatch out monday from a nest on one side of my house and found a hen that had been killed off the nest Wednesday morning on the opposite side of the house. I thought it was strange for both to be nesting this late especially this close to my house

Nah they gobble/strut and breed whenever they find hens. May breeding is common

my property in bibb co. going to place a few more cams in different areas tom morning Saw two hens on one of my properties yesterday that had over a dozen poults. The poults were about this same size. I burned this tract back in March, so I’m glad to see it paying off.

Saw some that size today Saw some a few days ago that couldn’t fly yet Overall I’ve been seeing more than usual and at an older age class so early hatch did well in the rain.

Why so many poults this year?
What can be attributed to the large numbers across the board tit seems. Is this just an Alabama thing or southern happening? Is it just normal fluctuations or is there an actual reason?
Personally I’m of the opinion it’s like the ruffed grouse population swings up north. They seem to be in a 8 year swing. Riding and falling for no reason to why than it just happens is what I was told way back in the early 2000s.
I’m sure there are local reasoning but this seems to be across the board this year. It as a very wet spring and always heard that was bad for turkeys and poults in particular
So what gives
Saw a hen with one poult the other morning. Poult was just old enough to fly.
