I was chatting with one of my buddies the other day about doing some hog hunting this summer and he told me that the summer is the worst time to shoot them as they are full of worms then.

I actually haven’t taken a hog in June or July, but I definitely plan on eating whatever I harvest (especially pork).

My question is - are there “more worms than usual” in hogs during the summer time? Just wanted to check if that was more of an opinion or if if was something that I should consider.

I kill and handle hundreds of hogs per year and I can’t tell a difference in anything other than winter months produce higher fat content. I kill hogs with a few worms in every month of the year but I can honestly say I’ve only caught a couple hogs that had a highly noticeable amount of worms. I wouldn’t worry about that being a deterrent as much as it being scorching hot trying to get the meat on ice.
