Just tried something and it worked very well. Have always had problems full length sizing .44 magnum brass. Case rims get weak, deform, and sometimes separate. This is even with generous Imperial Wax lube. I fired 100 rounds a couple of days ago and when starting the reload decided to neck size only. Adjusted dies to the length of the bullet seated in the case, then a good crimp. Cut my reloading time, didn't mess up any brass, test fired five in my S&W 629 and they did fine. Will start doing the same with .357.

I run carbide dies for all my straight walled pistol cases and never had issues full length sizing. Use hornady resizing wax for my rifle straight walled cartridges and will get a stuck case every once in a while depending on brass (45-70, 350 legend, 450 bushmaster). Half the time I think is for not using enough wax because it doesn't take much to begin with.

This, over 30+ years and thousands of rounds of 44 Mag.

I've always FL but necksizing will put less stress on the brass and if it gives you good results why not? I honestly think the crimp is key loading Magnum handguns. Course I've only done this for 43 years and I'm still learning.

My issue would be that the rounds I load have to function in multiple 44 magnum chambered firearms, one of them a semi-auto. For other folks partial sizing might work ok.

Always full size everything. Messed up a few crimps in my time but never had any issues. I guess the full size really isn’t that important in a .44????
