Any Opelika members here, or anyone familiar with the area? Auburn/Opelika area is also on my short list as well for retirement some day. I wouldn’t mind investing now if I found the right place. So, I know Opelika has some really nice areas and some really sketchy areas too. Give me some areas to look into please. Thanks

What’s your budget?
Do you want city limits, want county or don’t care?
Thoughts on HOA neighborhoods, want an HOA, hell no or don’t care?

Oh ya, with it being a retirement property, I assume you want master on the first floor or 1 story?

My wife and I have lived in Opelika 2.5years and have really enjoyed it.
We live right near Southern Union/Opelika High School.

Haven’t really determined budget yet. Depends on the area. The wife has turned into a neighborhood girl and I’m okay with that too. I don’t mind an HOA, depending on how they are ran. Of course you don’t know that until you start diving into it. My ideal place would be a house in a neighborhood with a golf course and a pool. I know there are some places like that down there that I’ve looked at but just not familiar enough with all the different areas.

There's some nice places getting built out Farmville Rd where it crosses Co Rd 188 and on westward......It's a straight shot on over to Lake Martin too....These are BIG lots with fancy houses on them on the outskirts of the city limits

Sounds like National Village(neighborhood within Robert Trent Jones) would be a good spot to start your looking.
It’s not cheap but checks boxes

CNC and 7mm08 pointing in the right direction. I believe it’s AU links that also fits the bill.

Grand National, utilities and property taxes are cheaper in Opelika.

If National Village doesn’t scratch the itch, AU Club would be another good option but it requires deep pockets.

Yep. It’s called pica. The desire to eat clay, ash, corn starch or other substances that are not normally eaten. But that has nothing to do with living in the area.

I grew up in Auburn. People of color are the usual consumers of white clay. It has minerals in it and is somewhat of a laxative. I know 2 spots where the locals have dug out there on white clay for at least 60 years.

I lived in Loachapoka for a while when I first moved to south Alabama........Gold Hill would be another place to check out.....Nice area that's being annexed into the city limits.

Agree. I’ve lived in opelika going on 5 years and love the area. We are right across the interstate from Tiger Town.
