I have a rule, I won't go look at anything for sale further than 20 miles away because people are full of shucks. That goes for women to! 😂😂 Depends on the year, make and model

I've never had any dealings on marketplace so I dont really know but, Is there a place you can give a review of those type folks actions or leave comments about them and their sorry dealings and poor communications? Seems like that may help everybody if you was to put folks like that on blast.... There is a place to rate them and I use it to see what others have said. I also look at their facebook page to see if they look normal. I suspect in larger towns or cities there are more problems and the smaller/more rural areas have less issues. Never had any issues once I agreed to buy something.

I've had decent luck with buying and selling on MP. I only do local pickup and don't ship. I do look at their profile to get a feel for if they are legit or not, or has hardly any posts on FB. If something is too good to be true on price (like those older sharp looking Tacomas for $1500), you can take the title and search MP and usually find the same pic at other locations........indicating a scam. If one gets a name, it's not hard to find where they live, so be cautious.

Well the original lady I had been in contact with must have figured out no one rushing in to buy the item and sent me a message that she’d be happy to hold it now and meet up when we agreed. I told her I wasn’t interested now.

I buy and sell a lot on Marketplace. It's bigger items. Boats, campers, and vehicles. I won't do yard sale items on Marketplace. I have rule I pay on all my ads. No holds without a nonrefundable deposit. First come, first serve, but I tell them to call or message before they leave. I'll never sell something if someone is physically on the road to come get it. Same with going after something. I get the home address, Google view it, and make sure they know I'm leaving. If they seem squirrelly, I don't go. I used to not be that way, but people lie to much. Tell you they will be there at a certain time and never answer again.

My parents were huge dealers most of my life so I grew up in hundreds of auctions, auctions houses, flea markets, car auctions. This was before the Internet killed everything like that. They also owned different businesses. From carpet cleaning to flipping cars, they did it. So I saw a few common traits in people when you're dealing with the public. There's a mind game to buying or selling. Some people call it art.
Rule number one, never haggle on price until you arrive in person face to face. Dont even mention it because it kills the sellers energy dealing with you and they will gladly let someone else see it before you do.
#2 If you want the item, you better drop everything and run to get it because most people ain't gonna hold it until you're actually driving to meet them. Even then, don't be surprised if it's gone. That's why it's imperative that you don't piss the seller off with haggling over the phone.
#3 When selling something, never leave your house because when you do, the buyer knows they have you over the barrel at that point.
Just say, can I come look at it right now, or whenever you're ready to show it. That usually puts you ahead of the others. And always have cash and a gun hidden. And let someone know where your going and send the profile to them if it's thousands of dollars.
People are printing fake car titles these days so you have to be careful.

I had a guy cuss me for not screwing over a person I had already made a deal with. I told him if original deal fell through I would let him know. He then wanted to run that mouth cause I was going to keep my word with the 1st person.

I’ve been fortunate on MP. I bought some seats for my truck but couldn’t pick them up until the next day. The guy held them even though he had 5 people try to buy them that could come that day.

Maybe I’ve been fortunate but I’ve bought and sold a crap ton of stuff on there and rarely have any issues
I have had the same experience minus vehicles. There are so many fake listings it is becoming hard to search through the legit ones for sale. Every time now I go through and search the persons friends and pictures to see if I cN begin to trust a listing.

I sure as heck am not doing a couple of those. I never meet up at my house unless I have mutual friends with the person or some oyher connection. And I alway do the price before the meeting is set. I guess I am not nice. But, if we agree on a price and the oerson tries to change it the deal is off. I'd rather take it to the junkyard than deal with somebody that goes back on the original deal.

I think once you acclimate to the Marketplace stupidry and learn how to pick out the weeds it gets easier. The morons usually show themselves pretty quick when you have a trained eye. It can be a PIA no doubt though. You have to take the good with the bad.

It has nothing to do with market place. It haas everything to do with people. I've bought sold stuff no problem, land, cars, bathrooms sinks, trolling motors, dogs, ect.. I ALWAYS google their marketplace and Facebook profile first and eliminate them right away if I don't like something about them. This eliminates at lot of stuff but also a lot of problems.
