They have 2 mass air flow sensors, 3 radiators, 2 air filters and two turbos. What a nightmare.

That’s pretty standard fare for any twin turbo V engine… each turbo needs its own filter and MAF. One radiator for the engine and I’m guessing the other two are air to water intercoolers for the turbos. Companies have been doing this since the 90’s.

Chrysler figured that out with the Laser and Dodge Daytona in the 80's. I had an 83 Laser in 1989 and the damn thing would over-heat if you did any kind of more than standard driving. I was a teenager so all my driving was not standard so it over heated a lot.
The easy fix was to pull the thermostat out. But running the heater year round kinda sucked except in the Summer when it was warm enough to keep the windows down. I didnt wear many clothes when I had that car.

I love my 23…so far at least. I would avoid a 22 from what I’ve seen

I spoke with a guy recently with a 23, said he was going north on the parkway in Huntsville and said it started sounding like a diesel. Less than 40k miles block cracked

Most are spun main bearings. Recall is for debris left from the manufacturing process that didn’t get cleaned properly….or so they say. Not just US built engines, Japan built ones are under recall, too. I fall in the production range, so interested to see what the final outcome will be…either way should be quite the aggravating endeavor for owners and expensive for Toyota and their reputation.

Knock on wood, but I really like my ‘24. I’ve ran just about every brand out there and can honestly say I’ve had the least issues out of the Toyotas

They are actually crapping out motors due to that. It's specific units from a specific time frame

Thats an embarrassing and what could be a very costly recall... All they needed was a brother with a air hose blowing them motors off... ...

If the government would leave them alone they would. Toyota doesn't want to build all these turbos but they are trying to meet the governments standards for mpg and emissions.

I'd rather take my chances with proven reliability than with the track record of the domestics.

I purposely bought a 21. Last year of the old body style and V8.

I heard the deal about the main bearings as well on the newer ones. Seems like Yota could get it squared away.
