I recently have acquired a possible dove field but it has a lot of clay. Can I still plant sunflower if I fertilize and lime well? Will brown top be better?

If you are not making mistakes, you are not learning.

You would really be pushing it for sunflowers. Actually this late I would probably do millets. There are several different kinds. You can also top see with wheat later on. Good luck

Definitely late for opening weekend sunflowers.
I’d do brown top millet, bushhog/ burn then add some top down wheat after you gently run the disc over the millet to be legal

I'll be planting Saturday and that's pretty close to what I'll be doing as well. I got a few bags of the WMS dove plot and a couple bags of brown top.

I did sunflowers and corn, and it is doing great. On the downside so is the farmer's corn. If they pick corn before season opens it will draw a lot of birds

The dreaded Kudzu appears to be near dead now. We got the seed in the ground Saturday so I imagine the Kudzu will re-emerge now. Just need some rain and then we will see.

I got all my summer plots, including an acre of sunflowers for dove, drilled in Saturday. They are already popping great just hope we don’t go into drought mode.
