Actually that's not the end of the story. The Bible has many other places that guide us in how we should pray. Not just the sermon on the mount.

He was talking to jews. They had never even had a direct connection with God. They were still having to go to a priest who stood between them and God. I doubt many of them had even tried to talk to God. Likely why it came up in conversation to begin with. They were beginners to say the least. Coldtrail, reconcile your last post with "the fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" or the scripture where it says God answered the womans prayer just because she kept on praying and wouldnt give up, thats in there, youll have to look it up. Theres definately more to prayer than the Lords prayer but that is a great place to start for someone who has no ideahow to pray. I just got done budding a few peach trees. I prayed the Lord bless my efforts and let them grow. I know he heard me and i fully expect him to help me. If he dont, they wont grow.

I pray all the time, and nothing is off limits in my prayers (big or small). I believe what Jesus said when he said “Apart from me you can do nothing.” I’ve had a very successful career, and I give God all the credit for that - but I’ve also prayed a lot about that too.

Regarding deals in prayers…. No way, ever…. Do not put the Lord your God to the test.

Jesus... I hope you know Him personally like I do.

I did make God a deal one time. I told him he could have my life and if he would fix it, i would accept whatever he did with it and do my best to follow him from then on. Worked out really well so far

My prayers are a lot about thanking Him for the blessings I don’t deserve, the family he’s blessed me with, and to please look after my friends/country. I pray that He looks after my wife and the little boy we have on the way. I pray that He helps me be a better version of the man I want my little cousins/nephews to see. I really appreciate the folks who He has put in my life whether they are still here or not. I pray for forgiveness when I think about the folks I’ve hurt. I was/am sometimes a crass/mean person, the peace He blesses me with isn’t something you can get from fellow man. I pray that other folks allow Him into their hearts. I’m not sure how folks go through the day to day without that relationship. It takes a lot of blessings just to be out and about in my opinion.

I’m ashamed to say it but back when I was in college I wasn’t really sure if there was an evil force at work in this world. A fella who was friends with Hawkin’s daughter spoke at a 9/11 memorial speech at Troy and ended up cussing a bunch of folks out and they pulled him off the stage. Turns out the guy used to play baseball at Troy and coach had him scheduled to talk to our team in the locker room after the memorial event. I learned more in the 2 hours he spoke to us than the 4 years I spent in class. There are sharp men who dedicate their lives to fighting pure evil and they are well read in The Lord’s Word.

I pray for help and safety when doing things. I pray when things bother me. I pray when I see wrecks on the highway that nobody was harmed. Prayers for family when health issues arise. Prayers for other people I don't know that ask for help.

I've asked for help when I needed it and I try to thank Him when something good happens to me or my family. Sometimes I just thank Him for all I have. I don't try to strike deals with him because I feel that I have nothing to offer that can compare to His Grace.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Pretty much what Matt and Joe W said for me. Can’t add much to what they said. They’re right on the money.
