Work mate bumped a hen off next a couple weeks ago. They bought an incubator and as of last friday had 8 poults.
From what I have read, when you bump them off nest, they may or may not come back.

Nesting this late is not uncommon. Heck I’ve seen three day old poults September 1st before. Yep, Ive found nests in August before. Kinda kills the burning window when they can be nesting in the first of March and the last of August!!
I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine

From what I have read, when you bump them off nest, they may or may not come back. And the fact that many abandon the nest after being bumped should produce concerns about shifting turkey season later in the year. Even if the DGT had some level of truth to it, moving the season later could be a net negative for the flock. Having hunters bust hens off the nest in May could result in fewer poults, even if delaying the season resulted in more fertile hens. But of course, since the DGT is baloney, shifting the season later becomes a more likely negative for poult production. Lovett Williams wrote of this concern years ago, but I haven't heard much concern from the current biologists.
