Seems I recall reading about a guy on Aldeer who specialize in Browning A5s.
I've got my late uncle's Sweet Sixteen from the early 1950s and have replaced some of the internal components, but it has trouble cycling after the first shot, leaving the empty hull in the chamber with bolt closed.
Any suggestions on an A5 guru/gunsmith?

Holcomb Kerns in tallassee is a good gunsmith. Been around a good long time. Worked on my stuff but not A5.

If it's not ejecting, that's most likely a friction problem.
Remove the fore arm and make sure the outside of the magazine tube is clean as well as the inside of the friction ring

I'll add to Gundoc, as my family has been in A5's for multiple generations...

As he said, start by cleaning the magtube and inside of brass friction ring. Make sure you know how to set the friction rings for the loads you're using, paying close attention to the beveled side of the steel washer/ring.

If it still doesn't cycle reliably, lube the magtube just a little bit. A very light coat of oil is typically all you need. One of mine likes to run almost dry.

If it still doesn't cycle reliably, take a close look at the recoil spring and make sure it's the correct one for your gun.

Folks know all about numrich, Midwest, etc….but there are still some smaller shops that do wonders in a pinch. Jack First is one that’s amazing sometimes. If they don’t have it, they can often make it. They’re also in possession of many things ‘unobtamium’ to many minds.

Thanks Dux, I think Numrich was where I got the recoil spring and friction rings about ten years ago. I've had Russ at Marks work on it, and it cycled for him with one ounce Rios at 1300fps. But then my Federal one ounce loads at 1165 still failed to cycle. So Russ is working on it again. Worse case, I may just have to find some hotter loads and use the Federals in my 870.

Actually, I’m questioning the spring tension/ring setup, knowing that. It’s sooo freaking hard to get an Auto 5 to NOT run like a Swiss watch, that this shouldn’t be complicated at all….but you never know.
