1) The list is a joke.
2) Trey Anastasio is the best guitarist I have ever seen play and I have seen Jimmy Page. Hard Rock folks like Jimmy and Angus Young were great within their own body of work. IMO Chet Atkins could play circles around someone like that. In that regard it is unfortunate that PHISH is an annoying unscripted "jam band" topping that genre off completely by playing some of the most stupid songs you have ever heard. They are terrible. However - Their guitarist is the best that ever picked the instrument up. He's at or VERY near the top of any serious list.

There is no such thing as “best”…..it’s all subjective
True I like Metallica but James Hetfield doesn't belong on that list. Steve Via Tom Morello Jimmy Page Hendrix There's way too many to list.

If Knopfler isn’t on the list, the list is worthless. True Also, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top). He may not be the most technical picker around but he has some great stuff.

The fact that Chet Atkins isn't in the top 10 and Dickey Betts nor Mark Knopfler are even on the list makes me believe whoever pulled this list out of their anus has no credibility what so ever. That, along with Roy Clark, Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt, and Les Paul not on the list, and Neil Young on the list AT ALL, tells me this wanker doesn't know music. I agree that Junior Brown should have also been on the list, but Jerry Reed wasn't bad either.

Neil Young at #30. No way! He can’t hold a candle to the ones not listed we have agreed upon.

The fact that Chet Atkins isn't in the top 10 and Dickey Betts nor Mark Knopfler are even on the list makes me believe whoever pulled this list out of their anus has no credibility what so ever. Hard to argue the top 5. All great and influential guitarists.
Clapton is way too low and is top 10 IMO.
Roy Clark should definitely be on the list.
Joni Mitchell top 10??? GMAFB. If they feel like they have to put a woman in the top 10, Bonnie Raite would be far more deserving.
Nile Rodgers couldn't carry Robert Johnsons pick.
Angus Young has been playing kick ass guitar as long as anyone.
And where in the he'll is Uncle Ted? I was thinking Chet should be a lot higher, he was smooth. Then, I didn't see Roy. What about Joe Bonamassa and Joe Walsh or country Ricky Scaggs and Glen Campbell would at least need to be top 50.

2 that need another mention.... Tom Morello. Unbelievable within his own music but also undeniably one of the best ever across the board. Don't like Rage myself but that's not the deciding factor.
Jerry Reed. Even saw him live a few times. He was best playing alone live. Not someone I regularly think about when someone asks who's the best guitar player ever. He should be in the Top 10 that guy could lite a guitar on fire he played so well. Rythm and Lead all on the same guitar at the same time. Called his technique The Claw. I was a member of the Uptown Poker Club. He could outplay Chet IMO.
