Planning on doing some bush hogging this weekend around the camp house and cleaning up some roads. Was also planning on cutting two fields that are 3+ acres and don't receive any shade. I am concerned about fawns but I am thinking with the extreme heat, intense sun and wide open layout of these fields that my chances of encountering a fawn are small. I assume that does would choose a more sheltered and shaded field to hide their fawns this time of year. What say the experts.

Just got to take it slow, we usually don’t start seeing them here until the last cutting of hay, which is after August..

Unless your rut was in December, you shouldn’t have fawns right now.

This is West Central Barbour County. Primary rut this year was the week of Jan 20-24. 200 day gestation period for whitetail doe should push fawn drop to August hopefully.

if your concern for mowing the area is that there may be fawns in it, why would you want to remove that for a possible place for a fawn to be

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

My goal is to try and release some of the Durana clover that I planted last fall. I was unable to get down there in May or early June to trim the fields. Hoping it has been working on root structure and will take off once I mow.

they’re mowing the row on 459 right now around the morgan rd to 150 exits. they were mowing the big hillsides under south shades crest abt 5:15pm, when i came back by around 745 there was a big doe jogging to a single pine tree closer to the interstate than the woods she came out of. would bet a dollar she had a fawn hid under it

You won't accomplish a thing bush hogging right now other than just "cutting the grass". Too hot and too late for anything food plot related. I would rather have the cover for the Turkeys and Fawns.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
