This article won't teach you much, but the maps were kind of interesting to me.

I remember a warning from an Oklahoma outfitter to us years ago. " Beware of the big 4-500 lb Boars. They don't want to scare or bluff charge you,
they want to knock you down and kill you and eat you". Here I was with my muzzleloader and no sidearm. Yikes !

That is definitely a good read.

Pigs cannot be that bad. If they were we would be allowed to hunt them year round, anywhere, any weapon. Been on 2 wmas quite a bit and have seen very little sign.

Of course its not that bad. But writing an article without a bunch of sensationalism doesn't get as many clicks. Facts: Hogs have been here since Desoto in the 1500s. They are certainly a problem in some areas, particularly concerning agriculture. They have also become the new cash cow for the Dr. Dumba$$ types in all these govt agencies. They themselves sensationalize the issue and constantly beat the drums that only they can solve this problem. Follow the $$$.

Hogs should be managed like any other game animal. They are a great hunting opportunity. I'd like to see a real, truthful study that compared the problems deer cause to agriculture (and automotive accidents) to the problems hogs cause. No one is talking about eradicating the pine goats.

The anti-hog hunting crap that is coming out of these state agencies and advisory boards has the potential to morph into other areas of our sport with the infiltration of just a few animal rights types in the future. Just look at some of the western states today.

I love seeing the stories in Canada about the "super hogs" that can survive winter up there.

Feral hogs have lived in northern Europe for centuries. It's pretty nippy there in winter, too.

Canada doesn't have "super hogs." Fking morons.

That's a great point I've never thought about. I'd bet a dollar that deer cause more dollars of damage nationwide. And yes I realize hogs aren't a native species.

Most likely, you'd be a dollar richer. wink

The same gov't types squealing about hogs being non-native (after 500 years, lol) historically brought us non-natives like kudzu, privet, etc. that permanently had detrimental ecological effects. Follow the money on the hog thang... Just say'in.
