The Sequoia seems to have significantly more room than the Landcruiser or Lexus models when I compared them. Not as off road capable because of the size. Smaller price and a big ride on the highway.

One more thing, the Sequoia has 19 cup holders and a bunch of storage. I have stashed stuff in that ride that will never be found again.

This! I found stuff I forgot I had (and bought, again), when cleaning mine out after 9 years in it.

Haha.

Before we sold our yukon xl I almost forgot I had a fishing pole and some camping supplies stashed in the compartment where the jack is located.

In my overall research..and i dont know why..but the lx570 will usually undersell a land cruiser by $5-7k…i could bot afford a Land Cruiser..but a lx570..almost bought a couple because they were significantly cheaper…i have no idea why..and that could have corrected in the last 4-6mo🤷🏻

Fewer Landcruisers were produced(and eventually discontinued) to push the inventory through the higher priced Lexus brand.

Everything I've seen says the GX 460 is built on the same platform as the 4Runner. I know used the gx460 is usually a little cheaper than the 4Runner.

I had a 1 Gen. Seqouia and I loved that thing. It was getting high on mileage and was only 2WD so I started looking for another one with less mileage and 4WD. That was a hard task since most are mom vans with tons of miles. I found a couple in great shape but they were expensive. I started looking at the smaller 4Runner’s but they’re fairly expensive too. That’s when I discovered that the first gen gx470 could be had for about the same price with far less mileage since a lot were owned by little ole rich retired folks. I would have settled for a gx460 or gx470 as long as the mileage was low enough and price was comparable. I like the the look of land cruisers but they are insanely expensive from what I’ve seen. I got my 2006 gx470 last year with 108k miles and though it’s significantly smaller than the seqouia I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t do anything fancy with mine, 2” lift and some 33” all-terrains. It’s hauled a couple deer for me so far and took me out to oregon and back with no issues.

The gx470 has the same engine and chasis as the v8 4Runners. One difference is the gx470 drive is AWD vs 4WD of the 4Runner or Seqouia.

I should add that a common failure on these older gxs is their rear airbag suspension. If you are moderately mechanically inclined you can change out only the rear suspension for fairly cheap and delete the airbag. I saw quite a few for 8-10k range with bad rear airbags. Doesn’t sound like you’re looking for a project though.

If looking at the gx i would consider a Gen 1 or 2 gx460. They’ll have some nice interior features, low mileage, one owner, regular maintenance etc. Theyre not great on mileage but that’s expected.

The gen 2 seqouias are decent price and can be found at moderate mileage, but they look terrible to me. I really like the look of gen 1 seqouias. The gen 2s are all bubbly.

Good news is the used car market seems to be settling down some.

2007 was the last year of the 4.7 in the Sequoia, I have one, love it except the gas mileage. I’m not sure what year they did away with it in the GX/LX series

I will correct about the above post. The 4th Gen 4wd 4.7 4Runners have the same 4wd/AWD system as the GX470. Only the V6 models were able to shift into 2wd.

I have a 2005 V8 4wd 4runner and it’s been great. I’ve had to repair some things but it’s 19 years old with over 200k miles. Hard to find a clean one in good shape due to the age.
I also have a 2018 GX460 that I’ve had a few years now. It was actually a few thousand dollars cheaper than a similar year/mileage Limited 4runner. Adding the V8, six speed transmission, Rear A/C vents in the roof all the way back to the 3rd row, and cooled seats. Another plus is the GX460 has the ability to run in 4low with the center differential unlocked. Same as my V8 4runner, which is a help launching boats etc. Which the 5th Gen 4runner limiteds cannot do.

The only negative to some is the rear door on the GX. I’d recommend the 460 over the 470 because you can open the back window on the 460 separate from the door. The door is also helpful if you cannot reach overhead to pull down and close a lift gate on the 4runner.

You guys are right about the pricing. One reason that I started looking at the Lexus models is that they run a few thousand cheaper than the comparable 4runner year/miles. The right vehicle for us is the Sequoia, but seems like our budget may make us move toward the 460 or 470. I would like to spend $25,000, or less. That puts us in a Sequoia with a lot higher miles than I would prefer.

Seems like Trucks have come down in price. Maybe I should get my wife an old car with good gas mileage and get myself a newer 2500.......

Bet that would work out well.

Landcruiser/LX470 had 4.7 V8 starting in 1998 till 2007. I drove my 1998 LC for 17 years and 276K miles. Spent less than $2k in non-routine maintenance. Sold it in 8 hours. As close to a free vehicle as you can get. I have a 2005 LC 4.7 now.

They swapped the legendary V8 engine for a twin turbo V6.

That's not what they wanted to do. They have already shunned most of the electric vehicle demands the government made but the bs EPA standards demand they get more fuel efficient and turbos were the best of the worst options they had to choose from. I'm not positive but I think the 4Runner still has the v6 non turbo option.

I just bought one of the last of the Mohicans.
I tracked down a like new 2023 GX 460 with only a couple thousand miles on it.
It was a demo model that the owner of the dealership was driving.
We plan on driving it til the wheels fall off.

Same here. My wife bought a 2023 in December of 2022. Got totaled by an illegal in November 23 and she bought the exact same vehicle same color etc. It really is the last great production vehicle. having said that, to the OP, find a Lexus GX 460 years 2009 to about 2020 and drive it until Jesus comes back.

I wouldn't worry too much about the miles if it's been well cared for. I've had a bunch of Toyota and Lexus vehicles go 200k plus with zero issues and believe most of those would have went 400k plus if I'd kept them. I currently have a 4Runner with 250k miles that I took to the beach (7 hours) a couple weeks ago.

I believe V8 4 Runners are AWD .

We had a 98 LC we bought for $38K in 2000. 30k miles. We put 337K on it. No issues, other than brakes till about 300k. Guy hit it and totaled it in 2018, and we got $8500 for it. We bought a 93 as a “camp vehicle.” They are great vehicles!
