We are looking to switch vehicles. We went from a Yukon XL Denali to a Subaru Outback and it just isn't a good fit for us. After a year we are ready to switch. Our house isn't built yet so with cars outside we are going older again.

We are looking to purchase a 2008-20017 Toyota Sequoia and because I don't know much about these vehicles I am asking for anything to look for or insight on if any of those years stick out as good ones to have. I know all about GM vehicles but just have never owned a Toyota.

Our second choice is a Lexus GX 460 or GX 470 if we find a great deal, but our main focus is on the Sequoia. However, any info on those two Lexus models I would also appreciate.

Thanks

We had a the version prior to what you are looking at. We bought it used with around 25k miles and drove the wheels off of it. Traded it in with about 275k miles if I remember right. I had ZERO issues out of mine. Probably the best vehicle I've ever owned. Well I take that back I did have 1 issue. The brakes seemed a little undersized for the vehicle. It would go through break pads. Might have more to do with how hard my wife drove it too. But yeah I know it's a different version than what you are looking at but we loved it.

GX 460. No timing belt to worry about.

All 3 of the vehicle's you're looking at are bullet proof.

Hard to beat the Lexus GX 460 or GX 470 for long term reliability.
The prices on the GX 460 have gone up recently due to the total redesign for the 2024 Model.
Some geniuses at Lexus decided to destroy one of the most reliable vehicles every made by “upgrading” it.
They swapped the legendary V8 engine for a twin turbo V6.

That's not what they wanted to do. They have already shunned most of the electric vehicle demands the government made but the bs EPA standards demand they get more fuel efficient and turbos were the best of the worst options they had to choose from. I'm not positive but I think the 4Runner still has the v6 non turbo option.

I just bought one of the last of the Mohicans.
I tracked down a like new 2023 GX 460 with only a couple thousand miles on it.
It was a demo model that the owner of the dealership was driving.
We plan on driving it til the wheels fall off.

Sequoias are good, but thirsty….can pull a a house, but won’t pass a gas pump. About the only thing to watch for are the cam tower leaks on older ones in that range. Mine had it (‘11), but wasn’t significant enough to tear the heads off of the motor to repair over. Mine was at the very back of the motor and I had to climb under with a good light to pinpoint it (find the dirty streak and follow it up). Never left oil spots. Platinum is a nice ride, but gets (really) expensive when it comes time to start replacing. It is really nice towing, with the adjustable ride and self leveling feature, if you tow with it.

Thanks, I'll be sure to check that out when I look. Yes, the towing issue is one reason why we are switching. Having to take my truck every time we use the boat or haul other stuff isnt as handy.

Depending on which engine is in the sequoia it may be the same as the Lexus. We have a 460 and it’s given us minimal problems. Also the mileage on ours on the highway is surprisingly good. 21-22 mpg for a v8 ain’t bad.

I was excited about the redesign of the GX coming out and was planning to buy my wife one until I saw they were going with a twin turbo V6. For now she will just keep driving her 4Runner and we'll see how those twin turbo's are holding up in a year or two.

You can’t get the new GX550 for MSRP. I think they’re running $85k or so right now for real world price. “Seems a bit steep”

I have a 2015 Sequoia Platinum 2wd with close to 180k miles. This is the best vehicle I've owned and I have had a bunch of 4runners. It averages close 18 mpg and doesn't leak or use oil. Rides great with adjustable suspension. Much roomier than the Lexus models you mentioned. I would avoid some of the older e85 models. They were known to have fuel sensor problems. I'm actually casualy looking to buy another one.

I am on my third Toyota Landcruiser. Sold the first two when they were between 225,000 - 250,000 miles. Mechanically, they were bulletproof and I didn't really have any issues. They drink gas and you encounter issues with electronic sensors occasionally but if you perform scheduled maintenance they will last forever. My wife is on her second Lexus GX. Both have been solid although not quit as good as the Landcruiser. May have something to do with the operator and not the vehicle. Getting ready to sell her 2014 GX this fall.

The Toyota & Lexus platforms during the year range you mentioned are solid vehicles.

Fwiw…..I think the Lexus GX’s are comparable in size to a 4Runner, while the LX is comparable to the Sequoia and Land Cruiser

Th majority of yall are a little confused
Lexus gx470&lx470(same as land cruiser): 4.7 v8, years (gx470-2001ish-2009)(lx470 1999-2006🤔)
Lexus gx460: 4.6L v8….not the same…very good engine regardless 2009.5(or 10..hard to remember)-2023..ish
Lexus lx570(same as nect gen landcruiser of above mentioned): 5.7L v8..same as tundra and sequoia..(2007ish-2023ish)
A
So..4.6L,4.7L,5.7L…4.7 being the least powerful(by very little compared to the 4.6)..but by far the most reliable.
I am toyota retarded…😐

The LX is a Landruiser with Lexus frills and higher price tag

Im sure the LX models are great (like the land cruisers) but they dont seem to lose any value. I cant bring myselft to spend $30-
40k on an older vehicle with 100, 000 miles.

In my overall research..and i dont know why..but the lx570 will usually undersell a land cruiser by $5-7k…i could bot afford a Land Cruiser..but a lx570..almost bought a couple because they were significantly cheaper…i have no idea why..and that could have corrected in the last 4-6mo🤷🏻
