From what I've read, that 10L1000 transmission is an Allison in name only. it's a GM design with input from Allison. The 6 speed is/was a true Allison and a much better transmission
As with every other GM Transmission that are having probles with it too

I’m not too worried about fuel economy, I don’t pay for fuel. Coming out of a diesel I just didn’t want to be disappointed in power and towing. Compare the numbers. 6.6 gas is 401 hp and 464 ft pounds of torque 13 mph. 6.6 Duramax 470 hp and 970 pounds of torque 20 mpg. No comparison. Your going to be disappointed!

I read a lot about GM having problems with transmissions but we own a bunch of them and I really don’t see any having issues until 180,000 miles or so. Is that really an issue? People used to junk the whole car at 100k!! I personally know of one that gave up just after being serviced (fluid drained and filter changed) at 76K. Owner barely made it out of the dealership lot from being serviced before it started shifting crazy. Something went wrong in the valve body Having said that, Ram and their 68RFE is no better and the Ford with the CP4 time bomb of a fuel fump, they all have their issues. Also have a buddy with a F150 with the turbo V 6. Only has 27K on it. Went to crank it one day and it wouldn't start. Some sensor in his transmission went bad and prevented the truck from even starting. Not sure which transmission he has though. GM's 6 and 8 speed transmissions and Fords 10 speed transmissons also have welll documented problems They are machines and are gonna break at some point. I've about come to the conclusuon one in no better than another

I have a 2021 6.6 gas burner with the 6 speed transmission, in a 2500 HD LTZ Z71. It’s a pulling machine. I’ve got 122k miles on it, with only powertrain problem being left front brake caliper has had to be replaced twice.
The 400+ horsepower is plenty. It’s very torque plentiful, and handles a load very well. If you want to give it a go with a load or a trailer full, keep your tires at 70psi, and just let it pull.
Personally, I think it is a VERY GOOD compromise between good power/but not too much that would destroy the rest of the powertrain (like the tuned up bazillion foot pound of torque diesels).

Sorry I though you were talking about the good old 400 SBC.... I got one of those going to the machine shop today..
