Filed a claim, got approved for a new roof, have not contacted any roofing companies. Do I call 3 companies and get quotes? What information do you divulge to them and what do you keep private? Any questions that are good to ask to make sure they gonna do a good job?

Don't show anything from the insurance company

Talk to friends and read online reviews to see who folks like or dislike. Just tell them to come give you an estimate for new roof. I wouldn't say anything else. Then try to compare estimates. In our area the estimates are surprising similar with maybe one or two way off estimates.

I got an estimate. They paid me that much, minus deductable. I told them i was getting metal instead of shingles so i was getting a neighbor roofer to do it. They just paid me. I bought the materials and paid my neighbors crew to put it on. I ended up having enough cash left over to get a couple other things done that needed done as well.

Don't automatically go with the cheapest. Get references and call them . A roof is meant to last many years , even decades , it's gotta be done right and they ain't cheap.

I had a roof put on two years ago thru insurance, called 3 companies for quotes, 2 come out and said they’d do it for the insurance check, no quote, I went with the guy that gave me a quote, pocketed $1000 from the insurance check. I was happy.

Get a standing seem metal roof a never replace again . Many colors to choose from . Insurance may not pay for all that . Mine is 2800 square roof including garage an estimate for shingles was $8200. Metal was $12k . Insurance payed $6k for hail damage but roof was 23 yrs old. I payed the extra a got metal . 4 yrs ago . Metal probably higher now .

Definitely this. Metal down my way was $1500 difference from tile. I’m in the process of getting standing seam metal roof now. Got several quotes and negotiated with the higher quote and he ended up beating the lower bid by about $2k. Look at the proposal because some may cut corners. How much wood replacement do they include. My lowest bid included less and thickness of metal was less. Get several quotes and compare and negotiate with them. Read the fine print in contract so they don’t try to say they’re not responsible for damaging your driveway. Also consider secondary water resistance as you may get insurance discount.

Metal was only about $800 more for mine than shingles. Unless a tornado takes it off it will outlast me.
