Im taking my 8yo to Kentucky right outside of Paducah for there early youth season. The farm we will be hunting is around 300 acres and appears to be typical crops and wood lots. The guys letting us hunt this farm grew up there but now lives in alabama and hunts up there Thanksgiving-December time frame Rut/post rut. From what i gathered early october will be a great hunt if the weather is good, basically catching the deer between there bed and food source. Im assuming the crops will be cut by then but deer will still be feeding in the fields as i dont think there will be any plant fields for deer on the property. Im assuming we will be hunting from a ground blind. Has anybody done a hunt up there this time of year? Any tips besides going up ahead of time and trying to pattern some bucks feeding areas?

I took my son up there for their youth hunt last season when he was 13. He saw 1 deer the entire time. We only heard a few gunshots. Seems it was slow for a lot of folks with an unreal amount of acorns on the ground. This was a little north, Peabody WMA. I hope to take him up there again this year although his vote would be for TN since he’s had better luck there.

Private land in Paducah should be off the chart! Tons of deer there. The bucks are still in the feeding patterns so if you can get up there in September and put out 5 or 6 cameras and maybe a trophy rock on trails going into the Ag fields. Should give you a good idea of what is out there. Lots of deer in that area of the USA.

Hunting brings out the worst in people.

We’ve hunted it multiple times. Not a guarantee the Ag will be picked on that mid October hunt either. The weather can be hot as well, but a well timed front will be a game changer. Take a good pod/rest of some type and willing to be mobile.

If there are still any beans that are green remaining that would be the ticket. Add some acorns dropping close by and you are golden. add a picked cornfield with that and it is paradise.
