I picked 130 watermelons outta my backyard garden this year.

Moon and Stars
Georgia Rattlesnake
Sugar Baby
All Sweet
Jubilee

Next year I'm gonna grow Estrella, Nunhems,
Maybe some Jubilee and Yellow Dolls

Not bad for a patch that's 60 feet by 40 feet in the city.

Thanks y'all, I picked 160 after it was all done. Had about 20 more left that were runts that i intentionally ended the season.

I learned about cross pollination. Hell I didn't know they will all cross pollinate so the seeds will be no good. All these seeds were kept from last year's harvest. That explains why most of them came out moon and stars when I didn't plant any! At first I thought I had mis labeled the seeds then found out that you can't plant different varieties and save the seeds cause those seeds might turn out to be any of the other strains. 👀👀

I'm gonna have to buy seeds every year. If I want to plant more than one variety of melon. I don't have enough space to hide them from the pollinators so they don't cross pollinate. That sucks

Nice! I grew Jubilee in my backyard one year and was amazed they even grew in the suburbs. Got 2 big ones.

Next year try growing some desert King yellow watermelons. They are by far my favorite. Most will be 20-25 pounds but every year I'll have 5-6 pushing 40 pounds. Disease and drought tolerant too.

That’s great! You can grow lots of food in small spaces, I think some folks call them postage stamp farms?

I planted those this year and got a 45lb one that looked like a beach ball. I only got 5 total this year but they all were 30# up.

I ordered about 10 heirloom varities last week. Will give them a go next year.

That's a biggun ! I prefer the round verities to oblong. Think their hearts are bigger and better texture.

This thing looked like a beach ball. I can text a pic if someone can post it.
