Pedicle damage. Everything other than the long spike on his weak side would be considered non-typical. Long spike would be considered his main beam on that side. Brow time has to originate off the main beam to be classified as a G1

Not sure what is causing that in the deer in the picture. Hunted for years in Fort Davis in Macon County and there was a genetic deformity in the buck herd there. Some of the bucks would sport a fully developed antler on one side and they would sport a nub or single spike on the other. It was probably present in 10% - 15% of the buck population so it was not pedicle damage. Never seen antler deformity in that great a percentage in a population anywhere else that I have hunted. Every study in every population has concluded it’s not genetic. It’s still likely pedicle injuries. I’ve seen it present in 15-20% of certain populations quite a bit. It has more to do with competition and sex ratios.
