Spent hours rolling the backcountry in Toyotas with friends in the mid-80s. Couldn't afford one myself until later but drove a 2000 Tacoma for 20 years. I'd love to find an 85-90 Toyota 4x4 and restore it.

The straight axle Toyota trucks that ended in 1985 are the ones to have after that they had IFS and while not a bid deal for riding the street they were nowhere near as good off-road.
I had a 2 tone brown 3/4 Scottsdale on some Q-78 Co-Op Grip Spurs which were 36's. Warn 8274 and winch bumper. Detroits. Bad mofo. Short bed single cab
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

The inevitable jokes notwithstanding, the 4x4's with IFS were just fine unless you were doing serious off-roading like rock climbing are more serious trails. Mine went over and through a lot of stuff it had no business in and even I was never able to get it stuck.

I had an 85 Yota SR5 truck.
Awesome machine and the only truck I regret losing.

LMMFAO. The ‘86 Yota shouldn’t even make top10 list of greatest trucks ever made. It may not even crack Top5 trucks Toyota ever made.

Most of those trucks went to Mexico. Every Friday evening in Russellville Alabama for about two years there would be 10-20 of them ready to ship down south

One thing I do distinctly remember about the early 80s Toyotas, they rode like trucks. The straight axle would be awesome but had its drawbacks too.
