What are yalls thoughts on these 2 if you had to pic one for a custom gun. 95% of the time used for whitetail 400-650yds

Naturally I'm taking the 6.5. Not just the .264 sectional density.but that 7 prc will thump you like a baseball bat with every shot. You can find 6.5 prc the 7?.I've seen it but not as much as the 6.5. If we had moose or elk or eland I could see the 7 but for deer 6.5 all day. Now the rest of you goobers call me a wimp but that 7 prc is toting serious recoil.

Skinny is my EX.Alcohol was involved.

There's not a deer that you would shoot that would know the difference. Dave makes some good points. The 7 would offer an advantage if you ever wanted Elk options.

I have both (well all 3 son has the 300) and i've yet to put a scope on the 7prc, hopefully do it soon. With that said i really like my 6prc but my youngest son has purty much taken it over lol, so i order the mesa fft with the 22" barrel several months ago and a Zeiss victory diavari from a member that i'm gonna top her with...

I have the 6.5 prc. I have shot the 7prc. Both are impressive! The 7prc I shot had zero recoil and was spot on at 600yards. The only advantage the 7prc has is if you wanted to go elk hunting or moose hunting, it does have more power. 6.5prc is deadly on whitetails and has a larger following right now. Either one is a home run!

You don’t need either one of those for that. You could just get a 260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor.

I had been shooting 6.5 creedmoor but stepped up to a 7PRC.
Like other said, deer won’t know a difference but I had two less than great shots with my creedmoor last year so I wanted alittle extra and something new.

What are the details about the two less than great shots with your Creed(bullet, shot distance, where they were hit, etc)?

I wouldn’t go the custom route, either.

I had a couple of 6.5 prc’s they were great shooting guns, ended up getting rid of them and now have two 7 prc’s one is a Christensen FFT Ridgeline and the other one is a Fierce Rouge, both of them shoot great also, I prefer the 7 prc but I don’t think you can go wrong with the 7 prc or the 6.5 prc , just buy one of each 😜

I just setup this Springfield waypoint in 7prc. Only have 35 rounds through it so far, trying to work up a load, but I like it.

If the 6.5 PRC had never been invented, the correct answer would have been .264 Win Mag.

But it has, so 6.5 PRC is the better choice for deer sized critters.

140 grain Berger VLD Hunter for the win.

I am using 156 Berger EOL over 58gr of H1000. I started with 120gr TTSX but they blew right through whitetail. I like a bomb going off in the chest of a whitetail!

6.5 is the easy answer unless you start doing stupid things like shooting light bullets. You don't need either if you are going to do that I'd get a .243. That way everyone will know what you are up to.

Before 6.5 PRC there was 6.5 SAUM/Rocket and the very accurate but a maybe 150-200fps slower 6.5x284 Norma (Long Action). All the same things effectively. The 264 Win Mag is a bit different... if you are a speed junky scrap all this and look at Weatherby's calibers. There is no replacement for displacement.

7prc is also a good choice. Nothing wrong with that either. If you are ignorant about ballistics the factory loads will keep you on track there and not let you get too far off track. There is some safety there in that regard.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

If you reload and are building a custom go with the 7-6.5 prc

Keep your booger hooker off the bang switch.

If you go custom 6.5 PRC, go with a long action.
