I have a 2.5 acre hill top field that I want to plant in clover, preferably perennial. What is your favorite? The field has good soil and has been limed and is ready.

For perennials, Wwe've used Durana and Imperial Whitetail. Both did well in the proper locations. Did best in partial shade in soil that will hold moisture. Sunny, sandy locations did not survive past the first year. The Imperial Whitetail did better by far concerning persistence and attraction. I have a IW plot by my house that is still going strong now in August. Deer have been in it every day since May, only a half acre and have 10 -15 deer in it some days and it's still hanging in there. I've been amazed by it. Planted several more plots last year
and they are thriving. Planted 1 on a sunny hilltop 2 years ago and it didn't survive. Location and soil type make a big difference

I’ve heard good things about Biological Non-Typical.

I’ve always been a durana guy until I tried Biologic Nontypical. It has performed better with larger leaves, browse tolerance and drought resistance.

Non Typical from Biologic is definitely a good perennial clover choice. I’ve used it and it will come back several years if you take care of it like mow and use 0-20-20 like they tell you. Big clover.

This sounds like a good fit for one of my plots that grows clover well. Do you plant with a nurse crop of cereal grains when establishing or does it grow quick enough to be planted alone? Acre to 1.5 acre plot south Pickens county.

I’ve always established my clover fields with wheat or triticale and a few lbs of crimson. You don’t have to include the other crops with it but it takes the browsing pressure off while it’s establishing a good root system. The crimson dies out the following spring and I remove the grasses with chemicals.

What would be the best bet to drill in to coastal bermuda hay fields. It will be drilled in with rye while the hay fields mature.

When I planted Non Typical clover I used the old Biologic Outfitters Blend fall annual that had wheat, oats and triticale plus annual clover and small amount of brassicas. It worked out good. Unfortunately they got rid of that, Full Draw and others and rebranded some of their other classics that you now find at Tractor Supply. Green Patch Plus is one of the originals they still make has wheat and would likely work. But Non Typical is great. As a former distributor for Biologic, I can tell you that they have definitely got their act together. Same with Nativ Nurseries which I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to tour when I was a distributor. Nice folks too. Bobby, Dudley and that whole group are good folks.

Biologic Non typical clover has really impressed me this year. First year I have planted it and it is still going strong thru the drought and heat!

Used to be able to find jumbo or large leaf Ladino clover. Other than the MO Nontypical I haven’t been able to find any.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Agree. Plus it spreads by stolons better than most other white clovers.

I ordered some non typical clover a few days ago to put in my food plot this fall with green patch plus. Delivered today. . It’s really popular so if you’re going to order you might want to get your order in. I’m actually doing a WebEx meeting with Bobby tomorrow to see about advertising my hunting lease liability insurance on Gamekeepers digital magazine and possibly the podcast. I’ll ask him how their inventory is on non typical clover. If he says they’re getting low I’ll post back here tomorrow so you guys can get it before they run out.

They’re 25 acres less after today 😂
