Anyone use one of these as your skinning knife? I really like the looks of it and have been trying to find one for a good while, but they’re hard to find in stock. If anyone has a lead on a dealer that has them please let me know. Thanks

Would not be my preferred blade shape.

I much prefer a shallow drop point Loveless style blade.

Dawson Knives has some great designs in your price range.

If ya haven't already, i'd hit em with an email and see if or when they might make another run. Also could call DLT and knives ship free and ask them when they might be expecting shipment. With that said, i started using my William Collins Sportsman's Choice a whole lot, it makes a fine skinner for sure. Anyways hopefully they can help ya out! Oh of ya do facebook i imagine they have a members only club where folks talk about knives & buy and sale, or talk about knife drops. I'm not on Facebook, but my Mama is, and she's member of Bark River Knives 😆

Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

The Large Northern Hunter is a nice looking blade. You can always get the original if the LT Wright knife isn't available. I love my Grohmann Canadian Belt knife.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, I’ve looked at the Grohmann’s and may go that route if I don’t find a NH. I think I’ll like the handle a little better on the NH, but have not held either one, so really can’t make a just comparison.

If you really want a nice version of the CBK, get Lucas to make you one of his Jack Pine Specials. His wait time is pretty long, but the knives are awesome.

VERY tempting RidgeRanger...and it's in the flat grind style that I want.

Another vote for Lucas Forge. I don’t have the JPS but couldn’t be happier with the Classic Hunter.

You can have it flat grind or convex, any choice of handle material, aged or polished blade finish, any gimping or lettering on the spine, etc. Custom knives are awesome! My recommendation would be to order one from Lucas Forge and Grohmann at the same time. You'll have the Grohmann in days and its a great knife for this season and as a standby later on. You'll have a wait for the Lucas Forge but it will be worth it.

Another vote for Lucas Forge. Have a couple of his knives and they are top notch. They stay sharp for a long time even when heavily used and are easily sharpened.

Ended up ordering the Grohmann #1 (original design). Thanks for the opinions everyone. Some good blades presented here.

You'll enjoy it. They are funky looking little knives but are very useful. The sheath is simple and secure. Did you get carbon steel or stainless?

Very cool. It should serve you well from now on.

Here's my CBK. Its stainless with water buffalo scales.

The CBK has an interesting history. Here's a few lines about it from their website.

Mr Deane H Russell of Ottawa Ontario invited Canadian outdoor writers to cooperate in conduting national scale inquiries amoung professional woodsmen and experienced sportsmen in an effort to discover the features most desired in a modern outdoor knife. Through a newspaper article Mr Grohmann met with Mr Deane H Russell and together they set out to design a truly Canadian knife. After field testing through hunters and trappers across the north, the DH Russell Best Knife #1 was born, which along with various other designs won many awards and recognitions worldwide.

The elliptical blade was used so the spine of the knife could flesh hides without accidentally piercing them. Its a well thought out design.
