Awesome. I have never planted any. But I'm thinking about trying next year.

Good luck with them! I planted on May 29, and got a couple of rains in the first week; nothing since. I went ahead and sprayed them Friday, but it needs to rain!

Do you use any pre-emergent? We decided to try it this year. Sprayed Treflan and tilled it in yesterday. Just waiting for some decent rain chances show up then we will plant and fertilize. I'll be interested to see how the pre-emergent works out. Seem to work great for Squeaky based off pics of his I have seen.

I sprayed Prowl on mine right after planting. It's incorporated by the rain and seems to have worked pretty well. It didn't really need it yet, but I went ahead and sprayed it with Clethodim + Milestone and it should be pretty clean for a while. The big question now is the rain. We missed the one yesterday and it looks like more dry weather ahead.

We used Treflan.

Those are going to do great

Chufas are tough plants

I'm going to attempt planting mine later this year as my chufa plots have become difficult to control the weeds. I have sickle pod in one of them and I can't get rid of it. I'm hoping by planting late the weeds will be less of an issue and I catch late summer thunderstorms.

We planted mid July one year and had a good crop. It was a wet summer

I’m planning on planting within the next couple weeks depending on how much trouble I run into getting hay cut and baled.

Great looking crop! No way would they do that well in my fields without herbicides over the top.

Those are in new log landings and one new bulldozed field. We stopped planting in the old
spots due to weeds.

Well, that explains it. I have found that new ground will often grow a crop without herbicides. And since you used a PRE, that gave you some great looking fields.

Here's a pic from last week of the same field I posted earlier:

You can see that I've got some sicklepod starting to get above the chufas in a few places. That is mostly due to the applicator not lapping properly, so I would call that applicator error instead of herbicide failure. BTW, I was the applicator. smile

Man that looks good. I started to spray some of ours but my experience has been if the chufas
are sticking out above the morning glory’s at this point then they are going to make.

Im seriously thinking about spraying our old spots with Arsenal then spraying the next
year with Roundup. I mean burning it to the ground to get rid of Nutsedge.

It will be a 3 year deal to plant but it might work.

Be VERY careful with Arsenal, you can almost have the ground sterile....for years, and it will kill large oaks by simply getting in the roots. Ask me how I know. shocked
