So between my son and I we have accumulated several skull mounts. None are what I would classify as trophies or even brag worthy. Their value to me is more the memory of hunting with him when he was little. Problem is he's 15 and he started going with me at 6. So memory is fading somewhat. I would like to make some sort of antler hang tag with hunter name, date, club section killed on, etc. so that when we glance up at them (whether on the wall, laying in the floor of the backroom, etc.) it can trigger a memory. I would rather it not be a plain paper tag with the wire twist if I can help it. Anyone come up with a good system that's aesthetically pleasing? I thought about some sort of metal tag, but those seem a bit much. Open to ideas here.

I can tell you the date, location, temperature and time of every mount me and the kids have. It’s just etched in my memory forever. 😂 I used to could have as well, but now I have to think on some of them. I did on a few take a sharpie and write a note of something exceptional (at least to me) when I killed them.

At one time in my late thirties I could recount year by year every deer I had killed since 13 yrs old, one day I was looking at some horns and had no idea… You can remember, until you can’t. It’s a strange feeling not remembering. I have to mark everything with a permanent marker now.

Quit scrapbooking few decades ago - hate i quit I have an album that goes back over 30 years of everything we’ve killed. I guess when I open it up and start looking through the pics and descriptions that’s what has helped me remember everything through the years. I don’t have anything on each set of antlers but I do have photo documentation with all the info written beside it.

I keep photo documentation- on back is printed date and location. That said when I leave this earth all of it will get thrown away. 12 ( current) shoulder mounts and 20+ Euro mounts.

I am not like Matt on this one. I have a whole tree full of them in my trophy room and cant even remember where I killed all of them.

If I named the deer and put some time and effort in on him, I have a little brass tag made with his name on it and hang it off the antler with a zip tie.

Put a number on the horns, and then have a journal with pictures of the hunt if you have them, and then the information corresponding to the number.

I just note the state, date and weapon type in sharpie on the skull plate. Same…. Small piece of paper or business card size with info tucked in the skull.

I have about 30 or so skull mounts hung on nails stuck thru the spinal column hole on the wall at the camp. I use a sharpie and write the date, weight and location (Patch name, tract name, etc.) on the upper palate.
