Does anyone have a screen shot or a link to the article outdoor life magazine did on George Mann? From what I understand he was very good bow hunter that killed most of his deer and other animals from the ground. I saw where he was from Opelika and most of his trophies are in the Mann museum at the Montgomery zoo. I would like to read it if possible. From what I can tell the article was done way back in 2001.

I remember an article many years ago about the 170" 8 pt George killed with his bow. A Booner 8 pt is a HUGE deer.

It is ironic you said something about him. I was just reading an article the other day about how he hunted. Much like me. I've killed most of my deer from the ground.....hence my name.

I worked for Mr. Mann while in college and can tell you a few things. First he was passionate about bowhunting. Secondly, he hunted from the ground and was fanatical about wind direction. He believed in cover scents. One of my tasks was to keep his vehicle full of gasoline and the smell of the cover scents would just about knock you down when you got in it. He was passionate about managing his land for big deer and planted some type of Olive tree for them. He had the Who's Who of the bowhunting world come and hunt with him.

I loved hearing him talk about killing an elephant with his bow. He worked up to a 110lb. draw weight and used a termite mound as a blind. He said he had to shoot it right behind one of the ears. Of course, he couldn't bring the tusks back but he did have the feet mounted and he kept those in his office.

Yes, the museum in Montgomery is most of his stuff. Worth going to if you've never been.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

There’s also a museum somewhere down there about the spear chunking hunter from Alabama, Gene Morris
