My guess, wrong herbicide or the wrong seed was planted. That field was sprayed to be that clean. Farmer wanting lease money back? Yep

I'd say herbicide carryover from another crop is a possibility
"Cull" is just another four letter word...

chemical or environmental differences (slopes of the field, elevations difference , soil differences etc)
i treat lawns for a living and i have 50-60 stops with 2 houses side by side. one will always look better than the other one, they’re never equal even though i do the same thing to both of them every time im there.
Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers.......... Si Robertson

I had a big beautiful corn field last year and about the time I went back to cut the corn it looked like your second picture. I told my boy someone had came in and bushhogged my corn field. I started walking around looking for tracks and it was all hog tracks. It looked like it was bushhogged like what’s in your second picture. In my opinion deer graze so there should be some browse still around on that one field. It looks like it might have got sprayed and killed or the farmer was drunk and didn’t put any seed in the drill. I don’t see how there’s nothing green but if hogs moved in and ate the beans you got a real big problem now
Ain’t no hogs on this property. My guess was either the drill had a malfunction and didn’t seed right or there was an issue with a chemical. Of course, I’ll never know, but I do not believe it was ALL deer.
The fool tells me his reasons; the wise man persuades me with my own.

That is not from deer. To be from deer that would have to be the only field planted in a given area. We don’t have many deer but the ones here can’t even eat a 2 acre field down. They’re waist high. They’re only eating the top leaves. New growth happens, they move up the plant. Him telling you that is BS.
If it were from deer there would be rows of dead stems about 2” tall. There would also be random plants around the field. Maybe in a grassy or weedy spot.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Definitely not deer. That was probably a planting or herbicide issue..... We did have a few corn fields that looked like that after the army worms got to them.
