I’ve always preferred hunting up high but I hear a ton a people shoot good deer consistently just by sitting on the ground without a blind. Anyone here do it with success?

Grew up hunting this way. Find spot, clean out the debris where I am going to sit to keep my movement quiet , and plop down. One of my best Alabama bucks was shot at 20 steps sitting on the ground in some planted pines.

These days I take a turkey chair with me when I sit on the ground. Those roots can hurt your arse when sitting still for a few hours. Add a bipod that locks your gun in place and you’ll be deadly on long straightaways/fire breaks where you don’t have much time. One more tip. If hunting one of those tight crossings, take a 5-gallon bucket, or something convenient but noticeable, and place it in the weeds on the opposite end you’re hunting. They will step out and stop broadside to take a look at it. Giving you enough time to make the shot.

80% of my firearm hunting is from the ground. 20% of my bowhunting is from the ground.

I take a chair but end up standing and walking 50 yards one way or the other to see in hollows.
Killed most of mine the last two years standing on a stump. Clearcuts mostly

Been primarily ground hunting for the last 10 years. Get a good wind, and it's been working great.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Ground. I had to quit climbing 3 years ago. Body getting tired.

I just plop down by a tree a few times a year. It's great for hunting hard to get too areas or as a scout hunt. I enjoy it as it seems just as effective as other methods and gets me into new scenery, in my case usually along a stretch of flowing creek. Many times I can hear the deer crossing the creek by the change in sound of the water flow.

I like to climb or sit in tree stands but I don’t have much patience and if I’m not seeing anything I’ll just go walk around and slip. Now as I get older I don’t have many tree stands left but do most of my hunting from the ground. I’ve killed a lot of really good bucks sitting on the ground with no blind. Especially during the rut if I can slip around some places where I know some bucks are hanging out and do some grunting having them come running in and be breathing down your gun barrel is a huge adrenaline rush for me. If you can outsmart one’s nose hunting on the ground to me is an accomplishment

I hang a stand…every time…may not be but 15 inches off the ground…but..bein off the ground and away from things that make noise when it shouldn’t makes a difference. I’ve learned, it doesn’t make nearly as much of a difference brushing in front of you as it does backing away from where animals travel and keeping your ground scent away from their nose….i always hang a stand..if i decide to make a hunt happen..but i will not g through the effort if i do not feel like there is a very good chance of me getting a shot at an animal..its bot worth it…i van soend a minimal ammonia of time in an areas an make a decision wheather or not its worth my time…i hunt the freshest sign that i can find…and where animals are..and will be…not where they were a week ago. You will never see me hunting directly off the ground with a bow i will always keep my boots on metal…and if at all possible…im gonna be 8-25ft up something.

I kill a buck or two most years off the ground. I have found a blown down treetop works great. Put a folding stool with a back (has to be comfortable cause you can't move) in the middle with the right wind. I have had deer get within 5 feet of me, quite a thrill on the ground. Have good camo and you gotta stay still. Deer will not look at an existing mass like a blow down very hard because they are used to it being there. Gotta have a stool becuase it is more comfortable and you can see better than sitting on the ground and you can stand up quickly for a shot if necessary.

I’m going to give ground blinds a try this bow season.

ALL of the big bucks I've killed I was hunting on the ground. I carry a black garbage bag in my backpack to sit on if the ground is wet. Then when I kill something I put the meat in the bag and in the backpack.

I started using a Millennium a couple years ago and its seems I'm doing it more each year. Light weight, comfortable, More portable and just fun. I didnt close the deal but had one of the biggest ones Ive hunted in several years within 50yrds of me. He never knew I was there, sadly I didnt know he was either when I stood up. I keep some snips in my pack and cut whatever I can find for cover. Seems to work well if the wind is right

I didn't read all the comments, but I see and shoot good deer by taking my very comfortable turkey chair made by Alps. It's camo and foldable. Sits your butt inches off the ground in a reclining position. You can easily prop your gun up on your knee(s) for a steady rest. I like to find old logging roads and fire breaks, where I can see at least 100-200 yards. I want there to be multiple deer trails crossing the road. Set yourself up in the turkey chair in/beside a bush of low-hanging limb and you're good to go. Rut comes, big bucks WILL show up crossing the road...but you better stay ready because he won't stand still in the logging road/firebreak for you to carefully take your shot.
