Laws are different from state to state. In Georgia parents can be charged if negligent. I'm not sure about Illinois.

Keep in mind, some charges will be dropped, but for the moment they are charging him with everything they think they can for political brownie points. There are local elections too, and all politicians love to be "tough on crime and bad things" during an election year. Regardless, that father's life is over.

Father was aware his son had made threats online, and proceeded to buy him an AR-15 for Christmas. His father is absolutely liable for murder. Those kids’ blood is on his hands.

Sure, he didn’t do himself any favors buying an AR. The police interview I listened to sounded like he was trying to teach responsible gun ownership to the kid. Maybe I missed it, but didn’t hear anything about him buying the rifle FOR the kid. I just don’t think the guy should be held criminally liable.

In a civil court, I think they should fry him. But I don’t agree with charging the guy with murder and manslaughter with a possible sentence of 180 years in prison because of someone else’s actions.

No. If that was the case then car makers, knife makers, including kitchen knives, fertilizer makers, pesticide makers, pharmaceutical makers, chainsaw makers, axe makers, bow makers, broadhead makers, rope makers, and countless other goods manufacturers can all be held accountable if their product is used to intentionally kill someone.

Thanks southbama and Johnny, the father knew the kid was messed up and brought him the gun, also think the mother should be charged with Murder, they fought all the time and locked the kids out of the house!!! The gun manufacturer didn't know any of this! I pray for the other two kids to get some help!!

I don't know what should be done but the father knew the kid was not stable and had made threats, had been interviewed by LEO. My understanding is that was last fall. by Christmas he bought the 14 yr old kid an AR and the kid had access to it obviously. The father absolutely has responsibility somewhere, if not criminal then civil

In many of these cases the shooter has a terrible relationship with their parents. What better way to drag them down at the same time.

Not true. The problem is the community, for the most part, that this happens in doesn’t care enough to help LE with information. Been there and done it. Not much you can do when no one is willing to talk.
