Around Halloween seems to be a good compromise for me.

When I want a "bow plot"... I just put a corn feeder out. No reason to plant this early IMO. Don't understand why people think cool weather is going to "kill" their plots? NOT how that works.

Got a good rain in the forecast but I'm afraid the seed will germinate then the typical October Drought will happen. May not be an issue just don't have time to do it 2x or fool with it later.

Mid-September plantings always have a lot of weeds germinate IMO.

Looks like planting this past weekend is going to pay off. We've already gotten a 1/4 inch of rain this morning and it looks like a multi day rain event starting tomorrow.

Looked like we were gonna get bunch of rain - now it looks like it may miss us 🤣🤣

Did a throw and mow field yesterday, if’n it doesn’t work out this year I’m gonna go back to the OG way or invest in a drill

We were going to wait till the first of Oct or so on ours but when the forecast for Helene changed late last week we went ahead and got all of them in on Saturday and Sunday

Did some throw and mow on 4 yesterday afternoon. I’ll do the others before the next rain event.

I'm glad we haven't planted yet. Several of our plots are sloped and would get washed out with this mess coming from the gulf.

I have fairly sandy fields, and just for this reason, I typically wait till the seed germinates and the grains are up and going before broadcasting the fertilizer. Usually plant mid to late Oct, then broadcast trip 13 just before a nice rain in Nov. I want those roots to be actively working when the fertilizer hits the root zone.

Lack of good infiltration and run off is what causes is no matter when you put fertilizer out......All of that heavy run off is carrying topsoil and fertilizer with it

Got 1 inch in the gauge so far. A lot more to come. Luckily my plots have almost zero grade to them and are in very loamy soil. Also they were all disced up after the rain we had a couple of weeks ago and the seed bed is deep. I think It'll handle the monsoon's that are coming.

You'll be able to look at it and tell afterwards......Just assess the amount of washing you had occur......If you look it up there are different levels of soil erosion to gauge how bad....I think the pic above would be considered "gulley erosion"

Those pics have a good bit more slope than I have, but we will see.

There is no runoff in the blackbelt where I just planted. There is not 10' of elevation change on the whole property. I Like to get it growing before the heavy rains start in what is usually November and it all turns to soup.

My plots are looking good, heavy thatch on top, green sprouts coming up thru it. Everything working good this year.

Planted a remote plot in the woods Tuesday before the storm. Waiting until October to plant the main plots. Bushhogged the main plots.
