Brassicas should be planted earlier than cereal grains. Plant when you want to, but I've been doing this for 30 years and when I've planted using the throw and mow method ahead of a significant rain event, I've had zero problem. Maybe some of yall get good rainfall in October, the driest month, in Alabama. We don't. Upper alabama versus lower alabama are 2 different things.
