Maybe I missed 10" on his rack but I don't see it. Just outside the ears so 15"-15.5" wide, 3" brows, 5"G2s, a 6" and an 8" G3, 2" G4s, 20" main beams, he's not heavy without velvet so avg circumferences... I see 112-115"? Where am I missing? Maybe I'm used to short tines 🤣

I ask this every time I get a good one on camera because I am tired of getting excited over decent bucks while I am sitting in the tree and pulling the trigger. I am trying to train myself to more accurately assess a buck and break my bad habit of high grading deer by getting better at accurately scoring and aging them. Hence my question.

In my post above, I just ran it real quick on my calculator on my desk, based on a single pic, and was at 116.5. Since I didnt spend much time looking at it, I rounded my estimate up to 120" and said plus or minus 3". Rules of thumb for field and pic scoring, a deers ears are 6.5 - 7" long. Use that for estimating tine length. A deer's eye circumference is roughly 3.5 - 4". Use that for estimating mass.

No I wasn't talking about you buddy. I was talking the about the other guys that was saying maybe 125. I used to do the same thing as far as high grading. I'm so glad this isn't an issue for turkey hunting lol

I've only had a couple that turned out bigger than thought. Most end up being smaller.

I'm so glad this isn't an issue for turkey hunting lol You are probably right I just quick guessed. But I usually over estimate the 110-120 inch deer. But who ever really scores them anyways? But , I almost always underestimate bigger bucks. I'll guess a 200 inch deer at 180, usually think a 160 deer is about 150, and if I see a 140 I usually think he is in the 130s. Best part is I never get ground shrinkage. The deer I was hunting for the last couple years was found dead last weekend (he died last winter). I thought he was a good 175-180. Officially scored 197. So, I wouldn't take my word for it.
