Snuffy,, I've thought about getting my sister a 43x . Why don't you like them ? Have you looked at the fn reflex? nope but i will now . she has a G17 , just too much for her to carry .

The 48 is simply a G19, slimmed down to single-stack, and the 43x is just a 48 with the barrel/slide chopped down to 43 length. The only downside I could see to the 43x/48 would be for someone with especially large hands, since the grip is slimmer.....but that wouldn't explain someone preferring the 43 to the 43x.
The 43 would be slightly more concealable than a 43x, though, due to being smaller overall
